TELEMUNDO - AL ROJO VIVO:

MARIA CELESTE: "Let's now go with Chayanne's smile, that melts -the hearts- of more than one, and is perhaps the reason they chose him to star in an ad campaign for a company's chewing gum, that according to the manufacturer, prevents cavities and bad breath. Chayanne is the new smile for the cinnamon-flavored gum called Red World, and during the taping of the commercial, he had to chew between 50 and 100 pieces of gum, one after the other. He tells us why he decided to make this commercial and why he ended as red as a tomato:

CHAYANNE: One of the reasons is that it's a fresh product, it's a healthy product and....I like chewing gum! -HE LAUGHS- I love chewing gum, since I was a child. The difference now is that I cannot chew as much as before, when I used to put a big ball (wad) of chewing gum in my mouth, but now I chew a little at a time. My left side of my mouth, this part, is (al rojo vivo) burning, because it's spicy, and it's delicious.

INTERVIWER: What do you do if someone has bad breath?
CHAYANNE: I turn and look the other way, I try to evade them a little, and if it's someone I know, I say, go and wash your mouth."

MARIA CELESTE: Well, I guess we would do the same thing, especially if the person has eaten garlic! Well, this is the first time Chayanne records a commercial in English, and we're certain that with this beautiful set of teeth, he will convince many, that the "world must be red." It can't be any other way."

"There's a rumor that Chayanne could be losing his multi-million dollar home in Miami, due to a large debt. Zaneida Polanco has his comments."

Zaneida Polanco: "During an entire day, the Puerto Rican bombón, Chayanne, enjoyed the flavor of a popular brand of chewing gum for a commercial he taped in New York."

CHAYANNE: "I've gone through approximately 100 pieces of gum! I get more tired from waiting, than from running in a marathon, because then, you're very active, always moving, but this job is very interesting, it's a new experience."

Zaneida Polanco: "And what better opportunity than this one, to set to rest the rumor that he's about to lose his mansion in Miami Beach, for an alleged debt to the contractors."

CHAYANNE: "I don't even comment on things like this, because they're not true! Then if you say something, you're getting mixed in something that has no rhyme or reason. In that case, you ignore them. You listen to those things, because they reach your ears, but you ignore them. It's absolutely not true."

Zaneida Polanco: "We asked him how he feels about the Excellence Award in the Music recently presented to Luis Miguel."

CHAYANNE: "I tell you from the bottom of my heart, that it's very well deserved. CHAYANNE: "It's very big! In both instances; because of the nominations and because as a performer, you feel a little nervous because you always want to present a good show."

CANDELA: "And Chayanne always manages to put on a good show. Being onstage, on television, or in the movie screen."

CHAYANNE: "I would definitiely love to do a movie, or a telenovela, but they demand a great deal of time, and right now I'm focusing on my new album. I'm working on my new album. It's superior to all the previous ones. I'm putting into practice everything I've learned so far. The album is very solid; with a sound perhaps a little stronger, more aggressive, but without losing the essence of who I am, the romanticism, the words, which is the most beautiful aspect. I'm always careful with the words, the lyrics. And I'm thrilled. I'm very, very happy."

MARIA CELESTE: As part of tonight's celebration, our dear CHAYANNE, will be perfor-
ming; bringing us his show. I had the pleasure of speaking with him just a few minutes ago,
and this is what he had to say.

MARIA CELESTE: Chayanne, you'll be performing tonight, as soon as the 15 semi-finalists
are presented.
CHAYANNE: What a pleasure!
MARIA CELESTE: Yes, what a great moment.
CHAYANNE: I'm very fortunate! But, because I'm standing here next to you! You've got
nothing to be envious about! Not at all!
MARIA CELESTE: Oh, what a flatterer!
CHAYANNE: It's the truth!
MARIA CELESTE: Listen, I'd like to ask you, because I know you've been in contact with
all the girls; who's your favorite?
CHAYANNE: As for having a favorite, I haven't had a chance to look. I imagine they're all
MARIA CELESTE: Oh, please! Do you really think I'm going to believe that tale that you
haven't had a chance to look?
CHAYANNE: No! No! I've been rehearsing! Truly! First, I was rehearsing, seeing which
way I was coming down, checking if there were steps, or a ramp and all that. But, I've seen
a few and they're all very beautiful. I saw Miss Russia, Miss Santo Domingo, Miss Puerto
Rico; but all the girls are very beautiful. They're nervous, I imagine. They're representing their
country with dignity. They're all very beautiful, I can't pick one specifically; and any of them
……can win!
MARIA CELESTE: He's a master at diplomacy!
CHAYANNE: Any one can win! Any one can win!
MARIA CELESTE: I know you've been here several days, and some events developed that
I'd like you to clarify for us.
CHAYANNE: All right.
MARIA CELESTE: The media here is saying that you stood people up. The reporters from
various sources are upset. You're one of the people who is always very accessible to all the
media. I'd like for you to explain what happened so that we can put the subject to rest.
CHAYANNE: You know that sometimes they announce that one will be participating in
several activities, but one has received neither the schedule nor the list of the activities
in question, and at the end, you find out through the media that you've displeased someone
or that you failed to show up. I was definitively, never informed about the press conference
and I found out about it from the negative comments that were aired and these comments
make you look bad in front of the public, when one is not even aware of the matter. These
activities, which you don't even know about, and you don't attend and then they talk about
you, and when that happens, it makes you feel bad because these are the type of things that
my corporation considers very crucial; punctuality, responsibility towards all the activities
one's involved in, so when this happens, you end up looking bad. But, what can you do? Afterwards, when you see the reporters who made these negative comments, or the reporters present at that press conference or that activity, you try to clarify the situation and you tell the
truth. But, this is what this is.
MARIA CELESTE: Furthermore, I'd like to say that Chayanne had a terrible migraine head-
ache last night…..
CHAYANNE: Yes.
MARIA CELESTE: So, you've been a true professional. And you are now ready; you are
whole, you are complete, to perform tonight!

WHEN MAURICIO ZELICK ARRIVES. CHAYANNE THANKS THE
MEN AND THEY MOVE OFF CAMERA TO GIVE CHAYANNE THE
OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO MAURICIO. MAURICIO AND
CHAYANNE EMBRACE. CHAYANNE IS WEARING HIS OLIVE

CHAYANNE: Nice to meet you.
MAURICIO: Nice to meet you?
CHAYANNE: Nice to meet you? He says, "where are you going?" Nice
to meet you nothing!
MAURICIO: Chayanne was about to leave! He caused a great sensation
during rehearsal! He was getting ready to leave and we suddenly arrived with
the ticki-ticki (meaning a commotion, going after the news.) First of all, when
an artist receives applause onstage, during rehearsals, it's because he's very good.
CHAYANNE: It's really been great, Mauricio! It's been a while since I've seen you.
MAURICIO: It's been a while. Let me tell you something; you dance, you sing,
you move people but the most interesting part is the time when….do you remember
long time ago, and it doesn't matter that it was with the competition, Raúl Velasco,
when you came down those steps and we asked ourselves, "what's going to
happen with this young man." Look at what he's become? A super star!
CHAYANNE: It's been great. I've worked very hard. Mauricio, you know my
trajectory as an artist. How, little by little, I've been surpassing every escalon,
and I'm truly happy. Happy with the latest events, with the Billboard Awards, and
with Miss Universe. My tour went great. I'll be finishing my new album in September
and it will soon be released. I'm very happy. Everything has turned out very well for
me. Thank God, everything has turned out well.
MAURICIO: Everything here seems very simple, without any special adornments. Is
this a dressing room?

MAURICIO: No, no, I dressed like a traffic light to be able to approach you!
CHAYANNE: No, you look extremely well.

MAURICIO: What goes through the mind of an artist. For example, you will be
performing before millions and millions of people. I imagine you must be mentally
prepared for such a task.
CHAYANNE: It's a lot of responsibility. You're definatly a little nervous, because
you want to do a good job, but when you are involved in an activity when so many
people are going to see you perform, first of all, you try to relax, although it's difficult,
because you're nervous, but you try to do a good job. You always try to give your
best, and then, let the public, who are the judges, decide if they like it or not. But I
always, as you know Mauricio, do everything from the heart. Little by little. Tonight,
we'll be doing a song that is part of my Grandes Exitos album, TORERO. (A CLIP
FROM THE TORERO VIDEO IS SHOWN WHILE CHAYANNE EXPLAINS.)
They asked me if I could sing it in English, so what we did, was to do 20% of it in
Spanish, and the rest of it in English, so this is also something new they'll be seeing.
MAURICIO: Of course! He should be on NBC! He has to be in the American
market! Definitively!
CHAYANNE: I'm working on it!
MAURICIO: By the way, you've always kept…..this young man has walked, not
run, his way to the top….and you've always kept your family very separate, very
quiet, but you always had their support.
CHAYANNE: Yes. My family runs parallel with my career. I adore them. They've
giving me tremendous support. They've been a solid base for me throughout my career.
They keep my feet on the ground and they are really happy with everything I've accom-
plished. I'm happy to have such a beautiful family, because, in the end, they are who are
really with me; in my heart, always. And my career is going great, so we are all happy!
MAURICIO: Don't be angry, but I always tell people that your neighbors are my
neighbors. They live door to door.
CHAYANNE: Ah, yes! There's no problem! No problem!
MAURICIO: And besides, we're very proud that this time, we'll be airing Miss Universe
in Telemundo! One of ours, Chayanne, and all the latin beauties. May the best one win!
Chayanne, thank you so much! You know you are loved! Ah! Before we leave, if I don't
tell Natalia and Luisa Fernanda that you send them a kiss……not Estéban, but the girls!
