TRAS LA VERDAD
June 29, 2002

Here's the translation of the interview that aired Sunday night June 29) on Univision's TRAS LA VERDAD (which translates to AFTER THE TRUTH (to go in search of the truth.) This is a very informative program and it prides itself in its very candid and straightforward approach totheir coverage of the different issues. It's always a pleasure to come across a program or interview that deals directly and intelligently with the issue at hand, as was the case in this program, with CHAYANNE's segment.

"THIS IS TRAS LA VERDAD. THE PROGRAM WITH THE JOURNALISTIC INVESTIGATIONS FOR TELEVISA ENTERTAINMENT. MY NAME IS MARA PATRICIA CASTAÑEDA AND I GIVE YOU THE MOST CORDIAL OF WELCOMES. AN ISLAND, A FORTRESS AND A TOWN, HAVE BEEN WITNESSES TO THE RISING OF GREAT FIGURES OF THE INTERNATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT WORLD. IT'S THE PEARL OF THE SEAS, PUERTO RICO. LOCATED IN THE CARIBBEAN, THE LAND OF THE COQUI IS THE CRADLE AND HEARTLAND OF MEN LIKE RAFAEL 'EL JIBARITO' HERNANDEZ, COMPOSER OF 'LAMENTO BORINCANO' (BORINQUEN LAMENT,) A GREAT THEME WELL KNOWN IN THE VOICE OF MARCO ANTONIO MUÑIZ (FAMOUS MEXICAN CROONER.) TWO FAMOUS ISLANDERS IN HOLLYWOOD ARE BENICIO DEL TORO, WINNER OF THE OSCAR IN THE YEAR 2001 FOR THE FILM 'TRAFFIC' AND JENNIFER LOPEZ, WHO INTERPRETED SELENA'S LIFE IN THE MOVIES. THE LIST OF ARTISTS BORN IN PUERTO RICO IS LONG. IT INCLUDES, OF COURSE, JOSE FELICIANO, RICKY MARTIN, EDNITA NAZARIO, MARC ANTHONY, GILBERTO SANTA ROSA, ELVIS CRESPO AND, OF COURSE, CHAYANNE. TODAY, WE STOP TO DEDICATE A MOMENT TO THE LIFE OF AN IDOL, WHO CARRIES THE SEA IN HIS BLOOD. HERE'S ADRIANA FLORES."

-WHILE REPORTER ADRIANA FLORES NARRATES THE SEGMENT, IMAGES OF CHAYANNE ARE DISPLAYED ON THE SCREEN. THEY INCLUDE CLIPS AND
PHOTOGRAPHS DATING FROM THE BEGINNING OF HIS CAREER WITH LOS
CHICOS, TO HIS LATEST WORK, GRANDES EXITOS-

HERE'S ADRIANA FLORES' COMMENTARY:

"A MAN WHO CARRIES THE CARIBBEAN IN HIS BLOOD AND HIS ORIGINS
PLANTED IN THE HEART OF PUERTO RICO. PROUD OF HIS LATIN ROOTS,
IS ELMER FIGUEROA ARCE, WHO GIVES HIS LIFE TO CONQUER THE COMPE-
TITIVE MUSIC WORLD. CHAYANNE. WHEN HE WAS A CHILD, WHEN HE WAS
ONLY TEN YEARS-OLD, HAD THE UNCONTAINABLE DESIRE TO SUCCEED,
TO IMPRESS THE ENTERTAINMENT WORLD, CHAYANNE INTRODUCED HIM-
NING OF THE '80'S, LOS CHICOS. THERE WERE FIVE YEARS OF PERFOR-
MANCES, HOTELS, FAME AND APPLAUSE, BUT THE DISCIPLINE AND STRONG
PASSION CHAYANNE HELD FOR MUSIC, LED HIM TO SAY GOODBYE TO THE
GROUP AND BEGIN HIS CAREER AS A SOLOIST, IN 1986."

-RAUL VELASCO, WHO CONDUCTED THE PROGRAM "SIEMPRE EN DOMINGO"
FOR MANY YEARS, SPEAKS TO THE CAMERA-

"……AND HE BROUGHT CHAYANNE TO THE PROGRAM. AND WE GAVE HIM
ALL OUR SUPPORT, AND HE HELPED THE PROGRAM GREATLY BECAUSE ALL
THE GIRLS LOVED….THEY IDENTIFIED WITH A TEENAGER WHO SANG AND
DANCED VERY WELL, AT THAT."

ANDREA FLORES:

"CHAYANNE'S IMPACT WITH THE PUBLIC MADE THE TALENT EXPERTS PAY
ATTENTION TO HIM. PRODUCER CARLA ESTRADA SAW HIM IN XETU
(NETWORK) AND DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE WITH THE NOVICE ARTIST AND INTRODUCED HIM IN HER SOAP OPERA, 'PROBRE JUVENTUD' (LOST YOUTH.)"

CARLA ESTRADA:

"WE TALKED WITH HIM. WE EXPLAINED THINGS TO HIM, BECAUSE HE HAD
NEVER ACTED BEFORE. AND WE EXPLAINED TO HIM WHAT THE PROCESS
INVOLVED, AND I CAN HONESTLY TELL YOU THAT WITHIN TWO DAYS,
CHAYANNE WAS ACTING WELL."

-A CLIP OF THE 'POBRE JUVENTUD' IS SHOWN. IN THE SCENE, SITTING AT
THE BREAKFAST TABLE ARE, AT ONE END, IS "HIS UNCLE" WHILE "HIS
AUNT" IS SITTING AT THE OPPOSITE END. CHAYANNE AND A YOUNG GIRL
ARE SITTING IN BETWEEN THE TWO ADULTS. THIS IS THE SHORT DIALOGUE:

UNCLE: And the four of you want to be alone!
GIRL: Aha. (LAUGHING)
CHAYANNE: Uncle, what could happen? I'll take care of Alejandra and Jorge will take care
of Rebeca! (HE'S FIDGETING IN HIS CHAIR.) Besides, we want to see the Desert of the
Lions.
UNCLE: Really?
CHAYANNE: Aha. (HE SMILES)

(THE SCENE THEN SHOWS A SHOT FROM UNDER THE TABLE WHERE
CHAYANNE AND THE GIRL ARE PLAYFULLY HITTING EACH OTHER.)

ANDREA FLORES:

"POBRE JUVENTUD WAS THE BEGINNING OF CHAYANNE'S LOVE FOR
TELEVISION AND THE ART OF ACTING. OTHER SERIES THAT FOLLOWED
WERE 'LAS DIVORCIADAS' (DIVORCED.) 'SOMBRAS DEL PASADO' (SHADOWS
OF THE PAST.) 'GENERACIONES' (GENERATIONS.) 'VOLVER A EMPEZAR' (TO
BEGIN ANEW,) AND 'PROVOCAME' (PROVOKE ME) WHICH ALLOWED
CHAYANNE TO IDENTIFY WITH THE HOUSE DRAMAS. IN VOLVER A
EMPEZAR, A PRODUCTION OF EMILIO LA ROSA, CHAYANNE SHARED
THE CREDITS WITH LONG-TIME FRIEND AND PEER, MEXICAN ACTRESS
AND SINGER, YURI."

YURI:

"DURING THE LOVE SCENES, WHEN IT CALLED FOR A KISS, I USED TO SAY
TO MYSELF, 'HOW AM I GOING TO DO THIS? -BESIDES, I KNEW A LOT OF
WOMEN WOULD ENVY ME- 'BUT WE ARE FRIENDS, WE ARE PEERS, WE
WORK TOGETHER.' BUT THEN, ONCE YOU KISS, THINGS BECOME INTER-
E STING, YOUR STOMACH BEGINS TO TURN AND I USED TO SAY, 'WHAT AM
I GOING TO DO?"

ANDREA FLORES:

"WHEN VOLVER A EMPEZAR AIRED, THE MEDIA FOUND OUT THE NOVELA
DIDN'T HAVE THE ENDING THAT THE WRITER, VERONICA SUAREZ, ORIGINALLY PLANNED. THE DECISION TO CHANGE THE ENDING WAS MADE FOR FEAR THAT THE SINGER AND DANCER WOULD LOSE POPULARITY AMONG HIS FEMALE FANS."

YURI:

"CHAYANNE HAD A VERY 'SPECIAL' MANAGER (SHE LAUGHS.) I CAN'T REMEMBER HIS NAME, HE WAS A LITTLE CHUBBY GUY. AND HE WAS THE ONE WHO WOULD ALWAYS PROVOKE A LOT OF THE QUARRELS WITH EMILIO LA ROSA, AND HE WOULD COME UP WITH ALL THESE OBJECTIONS AND AT THE END, I WOULD ARGUE THAT I SHOULD HAVE ENDED UP WITH CHAYANNE, BECAUSE HE WAS THE STAR."

ANDREA FLORES:

"CHAYANNE'S DREAMS OF CONQUERING OTHER MARKETS, FORCED HIM TO
ABANDON THE SETS WHERE THESE NOVELAS WERE BEING RECORDED. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT ALWAYS PRODUCES A LITTLE NOSTALGIA IN THE ARTIST."

CHAYANNE:

"I ENJOY BOTH CAREERS VERY MUCH. I HOPE TO CONTINUE ACTING…..IT FILLSME. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DEDICATE A LOT OF TIME TO IT, BUT….TIME WILLTELL."

-A CLIP OF CHAYANNE SINGING FIESTA EN AMERICA IS SHOWN-

ANDREA FLORES:

"AND THEN, THE FIESTA ARRIVED IN HIS LIFE. THE RESPONSE OF THOSE WHO
AT FIRST DIDN'T BELIEVE IN HIS CAREER, TRANSLATED INTO ONE OF SUCCESS, WHEN CHAYANNE'S MELODIES BECAME WELL KNOWN AROUND THE ENTIRE LATIN WORLD. IN FACT, SOME OF HIS SONGS BECAME HYMNS FOR SOCCER TEAMS LIKE THE 'AMERICA."

CHAYANNE:

"FIESTA EN AMERICA IS, I BELIEVE, THE SONG THAT ALLOWED ME TO BE
RECOGNIZED INTERNATIONALLY."

ANDREA FLORES:

"CHAYANNE'S MOVEMENTS AND INTERPRETATIVE STYLE ONSTAGE, ALLOWEDHIM TO GAIN AN ENVIABLE POSITION IN THE DECADE OF THE '80'S. HE WAS CALLED THE LATIN MICHAEL JACKSON. HE WAS ALSO THE FIRST SINGER TO APPEAR ON THE COVER OF PLAYGIRL. BESIDES, IN 1988, CHAYANNE ARRIVED AT THE GRAMMY'S WITH HIS THEME 'TIEMPO DE VALS,' AND HE WAS NOMINATED AS BEST LATIN ARTIST. HIS NAME BEGAN TO HOLD THE INTEREST OF THE BIG ENTERPRISES. THAT SAME YEAR, HE SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH BOTH, A REFRESHMENT AND A PHOTOGRAPH COMPANY."

CHAYANNE:

"THE NICE THING ABOUT STARTING YOUR CAREER VERY YOUNG IS THAT YOU
GAIN A LOT MORE EXPERIENCE IN ALL ASPECTS OF YOUR WORK. YOU SEE A
LOT MORE DEMANDS FROM THE PUBLIC ALSO, BECAUSE THEY HAVE SPENT
ALL THESE YEARS FOLLOWING YOU. BUT, UNTIL NOW, WE'VE BEEN
ASCENDING, LITTLE BY LITTLE, LIKE THE ANTS, MARCHING AND LEAVING
PRINTS, AND SO FAR, WE'VE DONE ALL RIGHT."

ANDREA FLORES:

"UP UNTIL THIS MOMENT (1988) EVERYONE TALKED ABOUT HIM. CHAYANNE.
HIS NAME WOULD APPEAR ON RENOWNED STAGES. BUT, WHO WAS REALLY
ELMER?" HOW WAS THE MAN, BEHIND THE ARTIST, COPING?"

CHAYANNE:

"ELMER IS VERY HEALTHY. HE'S HEALTHY. ELMER IS DOING VERY WELL.
EMOTIONALLY, HE'S DOING VERY WELL. HE'S VERY SOLID. HE'S HEALTHY. ELMER IS ME. HE'S CHAYANNE. IT'S THE SAME PERSON."

ANDREA FLORES:

"AWAY FROM THE STAGE, CHAYANNE IS THE SON OF QUINTIN FIGUEROA
AND IRMA ARCE. HE GREW UP IN THE CENTER OF A CLOSE-KNIT FAMILY,
COMPOSED OF KENNY, CLARA, EMMANUEL AND ELLIOTT, HIS SIBLINGS.
AS AN INFANT, HE LIVED IN SAN LORENZO, A TOWN LOCATED IN THE SOUTH
WEST OF PUERTO RICO. SAN LORENZO IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE TOWN OF THE 'SAMARITANS' OR 'THE LAND OF LEGENDS.' UNLIKE OTHER FIGURES IN THE ENTERNAINTMENT WORLD, CHAYANNE HAS KEPT HIS PERSONAL LIFE VERY
PRIVATE."

CHAYANNE:

"MY FAMILY'S PRIVACY, I DEFEND IT A LITTLE. AS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE,
I DON'T WANT TO PUT THEM ON DISPLAY, SO THEY CAN HAVE THE FREEDOM
TO GO TO THE MARKET, TO GO TO SCHOOL. TO BE A NORMAL PERSON, TO BE
NORMAL PEOPLE, BECAUSE THIS IS NOT EASY."

ANDREA FLORES:

"HE FEELS THE SAME WAY ABOUT HIS MARRIAGE."

YURI:

"I ADMIRE THAT ABOUT CHAYANNE, THAT HE GUARDS THAT PART OF HIS LIFE
WELL. I THINK HE'S A PERFORMER WHO'S BEEN ABLE TO KEEP SECRET HIS
LIFE WITH HIS WIFE, WITH HIS CHILDREN."

ANDREA FLORES:

"FOR THEM, CHAYANNE WOULD GIVE EVERYTHING. HE'S A PERFORMER FOR
ELEVEN UNINTERRUPTED MONTHS OF THE YEAR. HE'S THE CONSUMMATE
IDOL OF WOMEN, AND HE GIVES ALL OF HIMSELF ONSTAGE. THERE ARE VERY
FEW DAYS WHERE HE LIVES AS ELMER FIGUEROA, THE FAMILY MAN."

CHAYANNE:

"CHRISTMAS, I DON'T GIVE AWAY. CHRISTMAS IS ALL MINE. THEY HAVE MADE
SOME OFFERS. THEY HAVE ASKED ME TO PERFORM, TO DO SHOWS, BUT I'VE
NEVER SCHEDULED ANY WORK DURING THAT TIME. I ALWAYS GO AND SPEND IT WITH MY FAMILY."

-BACK TO THE STUDIO, WITH MARA PATRICIA CASTAÑEDA-

"CHAYANNE'S TRAJECTORY HAS BEEN ONE OF THE MOST REWARDING
AMONG THE ARTISTS OF HIS GENERATION. IN 1987, HE WAS NAMED 'SINGER
OF THE YEAR' BY THE 'BRAVO' AWARDS FOR LATIN MUSIC. TWO YEARS LATER, HE RECEIVED THE RECOGNITION OF THE CHILEAN PUBLIC IN THE QUINTA VERGARA, WHERE HE RECEIVED THE ANTORCHA DE PLATA (SILVER TORCH) IN THE VIÑA DEL MAR FESTIVAL. CHAYANNE HAS ALSO BEEN NOMINATED, IN AT LEAST TWO OCCASIONS, IN THE LATIN CATEGORY OF THE INTERNATIONAL GRAMMY AWARDS. BESIDES, IN 1992, HE WAS NAMED AMBASSADOR TO THE AMERICAS, BY THE UNITED NATIONS. NEXT, FROM HIS FACE TO HIS HEART. THE CHANGES IN CHAYANNE. WE'LL BE RIGHT BACK."

-MARA PATRICIA CASTAÑEDA IS BACK FROM THE COMMERCIAL BREAK-

"IN ADDITION TO HIS CONSTANT PRESENCE IN MEXICO, CHAYANNE HAS
TRIED ESPECIALLY TO REMAIN IN A FIRM PLACE IN THE UNITED STATES AND
MEXICO. IN JULY, 2002, ELMER FIGUEROA ARCE, THE ARTIST'S TRUE NAME,
GAVE A PRESS CONFERENCE FOR ALL THE SPANISH MEDIA. THE REASON FOR
THIS ENCOUNTER WAS THE BEGINNING OF AN EXTENSIVE TOUR THROUGH
25 LOCALITIES IN THE SPANISH PENINSULA, THAT CONCLUDED IN THE CITY
OF JAEN, TOWARDS THE END OF SEPTEMBER. CHAYANNE'S PERFORMANCES
IN THESE CITIES, SERVED AS AN ECHO TO HIS GRANDES EXITOS ALBUM WHICH INCLUDES THEMES LIKE 'TORERO,' 'TIEMPO DE VALS,' 'PROVOCAME,' AND 'FIESTA EN AMERICA.' BUT, WHAT'S BEHIND THE WARM SMILE OF THIS PUERTORICAN IDOL? ADRIANA FLORES ADDRESSES THIS QUESTION, IN THE CONCLUSION OF OUR SEGMENT, 'CHAYANNE…..WITH THE SEA IN HIS BLOOD."

ADRIANA FLORES:

"HE POSSESSES A NATURAL SENSUALITY AND PROJECTS IT ON STAGE.
CHAYANNE MADE A NAME AND A CAREER FOR HIMSELF THROUGH DISCIPLINE, PERSEVERANCE AND EFFORT. PROVOCAME, INFLUENCIAS, VOLVER A NACER, ATADO A TU AMOR Y SIMPLEMENTE, SERVE AS A REFLECTION TO HIS EVER-GROWING TALENT."

CHAYANNE:

"THERE'S ALWAYS FEAR. AS I'VE SAID BEFORE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S
GOING TO HAPPEN WITH YOUR CAREER, WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN WITH
A NEW ALBUM. YOU DO ONE ALBUM, IT'S VERY SUCCESSFUL, BUT YOU CAN'T COMFORTABLY ASSUME THAT YOUR NEXT ALBUM WILL BE SUCCESSFUL JUST
BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS ALBUM WAS. NO, YOU ALWAYS HAVE DOUBTS THAT
THE DECISIONS YOU'RE MAKING MAY NOT BE THE RIGHT ONES."

ANDREA FLORES:

"CHAYANNE IS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT DANCE AND EXERCISE. THE PERFEC-TION OF HIS CHOREOGRAPHY AND HIS PERFORMACES IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE, MADE HOLLYWOOD PAY ATTENTION. DANCE WITH ME, ALONGSIDE VANESSA WILLIAMS, WAS THE MOVIE WITH WHICH CHAYANNE
SEDUCED THE FILM INDUSTRY. IN DANCE WITH ME, CHAYANNE NOT ONLY
ACTED AND DANCED, HE ALSO SHOWED HIS DANCE MOVES TO THE REST OF
THE CAST. HE POLISHED EACH AND EVERY ONE OF HIS CHOREOGRAPHIES IN
THE FILM. VANESSA WILLIAMS RECALLS WHAT HAPPENED DURING FILMING."

VANESSA WILLIAMS:

"IT’S CERTAINLY NOT A REGULAR FEATURE FILM SCHEDULE, AND PHYSICALLY, IT’S EXHAUSTING, BUT YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT HOW HARD YOUR MUSCLES ARE ACHING AND FEET ARE SORE. ONCE THE MUSIC COMES ON, THERE'S SOME-THING INSIDE YOU THAT MAKES YOU WANT TO GET OUT THERE AND DANCE."

ANDREA FLORES:

"CHAYANNE ALSO VISITED THE HOSPITAL DURING THAT TIME, AFTER AN
ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED WHILE HE WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL, DURING
TIME OFF FROM FILIMING. FORTUNATELY FOR THE ARTIST, NO TRACE WAS
LEFT ON HIS APPEARANCE."

-A OLD CLIP IS SHOWN WHERE CHAYANNE ASNWERS QUESTIONS ABOUT
THE INCIDENT-

CHAYANNE:

"NO, I ARRIVED AT THE HOSPITAL. THE PRODUCTION STAFF RAPIDLY FOUND
THE BEST DOCTORS. THEY IMMEDIATELY FOUND A PLASTIC SURGEON TO TAKE CARE OF THE WOUND. HE RE-CONSTRUCTED THE INSIDE AND I RECEIVED 28 STITCHES. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT THAT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PRODUCTION, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOVIE. IT WAS A STRONG IMPACT AND BESIDES, I WAS SCARED."

ANDREA FLORES:

"HIS PRESENCE IN THE MOVIE SET WASN'T SOMETHING NEW FOR CHAYANNE.
LINDA SARA, WHERE HE ACTED ALONG SIDE FORMER MISS UNIVERSE,
DAYANARA TORRES AND ADAMARI LOPEZ; AS WELL AS LOS CHICOS'
CONEXION CARIBE (CARIBBEAN CONNECTION,) FILMED IN HIS ADOLES-
CENCE, ARE PART OF HIS INVOLVEMENT IN THE BIG SCREEN. BUT DANCE
WITH ME WAS MORE THAN A LOVE AND DANCE MOVIE; IT OPENED THE
DOOR TO NEW OFFERS. AMONG THEM, THE THEME TO THE MOVIE, ATLANTIS,
THE LOST EMPIRE, FROM DISNEY STUDIOS. 'DONDE VAN TUS SUEÑOS' IS THE
NAME OF THE THEME SONG."

"FOR YEARS, THERE'S BEEN TALK ABOUT AN ALLEGED RIVALRY BETWEEN
CHAYANNE AND RICKY MARTIN. BOTH PUERTO RICAN AND WITH A SIMILAR BACKGROUND, BEING ASSOCIATED WITH A YOUTH MUSIC GROUP. BOTH
HAVE SHOWN TO BE IN POSSESSION OF A RIGID DISCIPLINE AND A HUNGER
FOR CONQUEST. BOTH ARE SUCCESSFUL AND GOOD LOOKING, CERTAINLY;
BUT FOR CHAYANNE, THAT RIVALRY SIMPLY DOESN'T SEEM TO EXIST. THE
COMPARISONS BETWEEN CHAYANNE AND RICKY MARTIN ARE PLENTY, BUT
THE DIFFERENCE IN STYLES HAVE SET THE GUIDELINES FOR SUCCESS IN THE
CAREER OF THE INTERPRETER OF 'TU PIRATA SOY YO."

RAUL VELASCO-

"CHAYANNE'S IMAGE IS MORE INNOCENT. HE'S THE GOOD BOY. SHY.
HE LACKS AGGRESSIVENESS. RICKY MARTIN BELONGS TO A CLASS OF
PHENOMENON, BECAUSE RICKY MARTIN'S CHARISMA SPILLS OUT FROM
THE SCREEN."

ANDREA FLORES:

"BESIDES, CHAYANNE HAS ALWAYS DISTINGUISHED HIMSELF BY
OFFERING INTERESTING PRODUCTIONS. HE NEVER CONTEMPLATES THE
WORK OF HIS COLLEAGUES. HE SETS HIS EYES ON ONE OBJECTIVE, TO BE
THE BEST. THAT'S HOW JOE BONILLA, TALENT AGENT, DESCRIBES CHAYANNE."

JOE BONILLA:

"I BELIEVE CHAYANNE NEVER WANTED TO RUN. CHAYANNE IS A PERSON
WHO TREADS SLOWLY, BUT FIRMLY. CHAYANNE IS SOMEONE WHO HAS
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS REMAINED IN PLACE. THERE ARE OTHER
PEOPLE WHO HAVE RISEN TO THE TOP AND THEN COME DOWN, BUT
CHAYANNE HAS REMAINED."

ANDREA FLORES:

"IN SPITE OF ALL THE GLORY, CRYSTALLIZED DREAMS, APPLAUSE, A NEW
GRAMMY NOMINATION FOR 'ATADO A TU AMOR,' AS WELL AS THE BILL-
BOARD AWARD AND HIS PARTICIPATION ON THE INTERNATIONAL STAGE,
FAME FOR CHAYANNE HAS COME WITH A PRICE. LONELINESS AND
NOSTALGIA FOR HIS FAMILY ARE ALWAYS REFLECTED IN THE SAD
AND MELANCHOLY GAZE OF THE SINGER."

CHAYANNE:

"FOR CHAYANNE…..HIS WORK OBVIOUSLY ROBS HIM OF A LOT OF TIME
HE COULD BE SPENDING DOING SOMETHING HE LIKES VERY MUCH. I WISH
I COULD DIVIDE MYSELF, SOME CLONING, DO SOMETHING TO BE ABLE TO
BE WITH MY FAMILY. I'VE BEEN ABSENT SO MUCH AND ONE ALWAYS THINKS,
"I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE BEEN THERE FOR THIS OR THAT.' MOMENTS
THAT ARE PART OF THE LIFE OF ANY HUMAN BEING."

ANDREA FLORES:

"HOWEVER, THE SCALE BALANCING HIS SCHEDULED ENGAGEMENTS DOES
NOT STOP. FOR THE SINGER OF SALOME, THERE'S STILL MUCH HOMEWORK
TO BE DONE. HIS GOALS ARE BARELY COMING INTO PLACE."

CHAYANNE:

"THERE'S SO MUCH STILL FOR ME TO DO. I NEED TO DO MORE MOVIES. I NEED
TO DO MORE TELEVISION; TO WORK IN SPANISH, IN ENGLISH; TO CONTINUE
ACTING; WITH WHOM? THERE ARE A LOT OF ACTRESSES, A LOT OF ACTORS
WITH WHOM I'D LIKE TO WORK."

ANDREA FLORES:

"THE MUCH TALKED ABOUT AND MUCH VIZUALIZED CROSS OVER HAS BEEN
ON CHAYANNE'S MIND FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS."

-THEY SHOW A CLIP FROM 1993 WHERE CHAYANNE REFERS TO A POSSIBLE CROSS OVER-

CHAYANNE:

"WE'RE LOOKING INTO THE POSSIBILITIES OF RECORDING THE ALBUM IN
ENGLISH. THERE'S A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE
SUPPORTING ME. PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN ME, WHICH IS WHAT COUNTS;
TO HAVE PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN YOU. WE ARE LOOKING INTO THE POSSI-
BILITY OF RECORD THIS ALBUM IN ENGLISH AT THE END OF THIS YEAR, 1993."

ANDREA FLORES:

"IF BEFORE, SINGING IN PORTUGUESE AND SPANISH GAVE RESULTS. NOW,
THE AMERICAN MARKET WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY OF KNOWING
CHAYANNE."

CHAYANNE: (ANSWERING, I BELIEVE, THE QUESTION AS TO WHY THE CROSS-
OVER HAS BEEN POSTPONED.)

"I'VE WORKED DILIGENTLY LIKE THE LITTLE ANTS. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN PRESENT.
MY CAREER, THANK GOD, HAS BEEN IN ASCENT. IT'S WORKED OUT FINE. SO,
THESE ARE ALL THE THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED TO ME. THERE WAS ALSO
A TIME BETWEEN, 'PROVOCAME' AND 'VOLVER A NACER,' THAT DUE TO A
RESTRUCTURE IN MY WORK TEAM, I HAD TO TAKE SOME TIME. THEN CAME
THE MOVIE. WHEN I WANTED TO RECORD THE ALBUM IN ENGLISH, THE
PROJECT WITH SALOME CAME ABOUT; ITS PROMOTION IN EUROPE, AND
THEN CONTINUED PROMOTING IT FOR THE TOUR AND OTHER PERFORMANCES.
AND SIX YEARS HAVE GONE BY. BUT THESE THINGS HAPPEN. BUT I CONTINUE
WITH MY DREAMS, WITH ILLUSIONS, THAT IT WHAT'S SO BEAUTIFUL; WITH
DESIRE, WITH LONGING, WITH HUNGER. ALL THAT IS STILL IN ME. IT'S AS IF I
WERE JUST BEGINNING."

ANDREA FLORES:

"FOR CHAYANNE, HIS QUEST TO SING IN ENGLISH FOR THE AMERICAN AND
EUROPEAN MARKETS, IS SOON TO BE REALIZED. IN SPAIN, HE'S ALREADY
AN IDOL. THE MOTHER COUNTRY HAS GIVEN HIM THE EARS AND THE TAIL
LIKE A TORERO (BULLFIGHTER.)"

"AMONG CHAYANNE'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS, THERE ARE 49 GOLD AND
PLATINUM RECORDS; HIS APPEAREANCE IN AMERICAN TELEVISION SERIES;
THE RECOGNITION OF PEOPLE MAGAZINE AS ONE OF THE 50 MOST BEAUTIFUL MEN IN THE WORLD; MILLIONAIRE SALES OF HIS PRODUCTIONS, AND OFFERS TO ACT IN BROADWAY. BESIDES, HE'S INVOLVED IN SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS THAT HELP SOCIAL CAUSES. ALL THIS, SPEAKS OF HIS HISTORY. NEW CONTINENTS HOLD OPEN THEIR DOORS TO RECEIVE CHAYANNE AND HIS CAREER, BECAUSE THE BEST IS YET TO COME, FROM THIS MAN WHO WAS BORN WITH THE SEA IN HIS BLOOD."

-BACK TO MARA PATRICIA CASTAÑEDA IN THE STUDIO-

"ALMOST TWO DECADES SUPPORT CHAYANNE'S TRAJECTORY. ACCUSTOMED
TO REMAIN FAR AWAY FROM SCANDAL, THE SINGER HAS INVOLVED HIMSELF
IN OTHER FIELDS SEPARATE FROM THE MUSIC WORLD. IN PARTICULAR,
CHAYANNE HAS DEDICATED HIS TIME TO AN INTENSE LABOR IN FAVOR OF
THE LATINO IMMIGRANT COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES. PRIVATELY,
HE ALSO DEDICATES HIS TIME TO AN ORGANIZATION THAT HELPS CHILDREN
WITH TERMINAL ILLNESSES. TO MEXICO, CHAYANNE IS MUCH MORE THAN
A STAR. HE'S A CELEBRITY WHO REFLECTS THE LOVE HE HAS RECEIVED FROM
THE PUBLIC. THE SAME AFFECTION HE GIVES BACK TO HIS LATINO BROTHERS, WITH ALL HIS HEART."

OTRO ROLLO
June, 2002

Hello Everyone!

This is one of my favorite Chayanne interviews so I decided to translate it for everyone to
enjoy! This took place during his promotional tour in México City in June 2002. He visited the OTRO ROLLO set and spent what looks like a wonderful evening with Adal Ramones. I didn't
know it then, but two weeks later, I was going to be lucky enough to attend his concert in Los Angeles, thanks to my wonderful and handsome son, Pedro Lorenzo, who surprised me with
his concert
and even drove me there and served as my photographer while I screamed and
went crazy for Chayanne like everyone else there! I hope you like it!

Hasta luego, Leticia.
………………………………………………………………………………………………

-CHAYANNE SINGS Y TU TE VAS-

-AFTER THE SONG, ADAL COMES ONSTAGE AND GREETS CHAYANNE. THE
GOES WILD. ADAL HAS TO SHOUT TO CHAYANNE IN ORDER TO BE HEARD,
BECAUSE OF ALL THE COMMOTION THE AUDIENCE IS MAKING-

-ADAL TO CHAYANNE: Look at all the scandal you've caused! Look at all the scandal you've
caused!

-ADAL TO THE AUDIENCE: Do you want him over there with you? Do you want him over there?

-ADAL MAKES THE MOTION OF TOSSING HIM TO THE AUDIENCE. CHAYANNE IS
ALL SMILES AND HE MAKES THIS BEAUTIFUL GESTURE WHERE HE RAISES HIS
HAND ANDIS ABOUT TO COVER HIS MOUTH IN AN ALMOST CHILD-LIKE SHY MANNER. HE WAVES TO THE AUDIENCE-

ADAL: Ladies and gentlemen, we will take a short break and come back with more of Chayanne!

-ADAL IS CARRYING IN HIS HAND A COPY OF THE GRANDES EXITOS CD AND HE HOLDS
IT UP FOR A CAMERA CLOSE-UP AS THEY CUT FOR A COMMERCIAL-

-BACK FROM THE COMMERCIAL BREAK- CHAYANNE IS SITTING FACING THE AUDIENCE.
ADAL SITS TO CHAYANNE'S LEFT IN A SEMI-CIRCLE-

ADAL ADDRESSING THE AUDIENCE: All right! Ladies and gentlemen: Chayanne! Now you
may welcome him with a big applause!

-SCREAMS AND SHOUTS FROM THE AUDIENCE. SOMEONE BLOWS A KISS IN
CHAYANNE'S DIRECTION. HE GRACIOUSLY CAPTURES IT IN HIS HAND-

ADAL: These little girls will be going home with their hands swollen!
CHAYANNE: It's true! You have a wonderful audience!
ADAL: Do you know, there are girls who brought signs with feverish messages! This one girl sitting
somewhere over there brought a sign that says: "Chayanne, I'd do anything to travel your entire body.
" Please!
CHAYANNE: If only they knew how easy one is!
ADAL: Are you easy? You were! You were!
CHAYANNE: I was! I was easy!
ADAL: Yes, but they say that in the heart of an easy man, there will always reside an easy man! I mean,
maybe you haven't experienced it yet, but he'll always remain an easy man!
CHAYANNE: He'll always be an easy man? All right, all right!

-A FEMALE IN THE AUDIENCE SCREAMS SOMETHING INAUDIBLE-

ADAL: I'm telling you, they're crazy! I don't know what they've been smoking! (HE'S REFERRING
TO THE AUDIENCE.) Listen, you're here, obviously, to keep an appointment with your public,
bringing your concerts to them.
CHAYANNE: Yes! I'm extremely happy. I was here two years ago. I'm going to be performing in the
interior, something I enjoy very much. We'll be visiting Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Monterrey,
Querétaro, San Luis Potosí; we'll be here, in the Auditorio Nacional, where I performed two years ago.
The people of México saw me grow up! They've followed my career. I'm very happy to be here once
again! I was very little when I started and now I'm all grown up!
ADAL: Yes, and also, I remember you made a novela with Yuri!
CHAYANNE: I remember, too! (CHAYANNE LAUGHS AND HAS AN IMPISH LOOK ON HIS
FACE, AND SHAKES HIS FINGER AT ADAL.) But you don't have any videos of that! You don’t, right?
ADAL: No, we don't have a video of that, but we have a video -and we're going to continue talking with
Chayanne- but first, we have a video with clips of previous visits you've made to OTRO ROLLO. Do
you want so see it?
CHAYANNE: No! But we're going to see it, anyway! Right?
ADAL: I'll show it to you! You and I look like two different people!
CHAYANNE: Yes, I can imagine!
ADAL: For example, you and I have done a little of exercise and we now look a little more….
CHAYANNE: More solid!
ADAL: More solid!

-CHAYANNE SHAKES ADAL'S HAND, AND ADAL SCREAMS AND PRETENDS TO BE IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN FROM CHAYANNE'S STRENGTH-

ADAL: No! Take me, for example, I now look more firm!
CHAYANNE: More firm! Okay!
ADAL: More fit!
CHAYANNE: More fit!
ADAL: But you're in great shape!
CHAYANNE: No! It's the shirt!
ADAL: It's the shirt?
CHAYANNE: It's just the shirt!
ADAL: It's just the shirt? Where can I buy one? I want to look like that, also!
CHAYANNE: No, no! I do a lot of exercise! I do a lot of…..

-THE AUDIENCE BEGINS SHOUTING. A FEMALE FROM ADAL'S CREW MAKES A
COMMENT AND CHAYANNE LAUGHS AND INTERRUPTS HIS CONVERSATION
WITH ADAL, TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE WOMAN'S COMMENT-

CHAYANNE: If it were only the shirt, she says!
ADAL: Is she referring to my shirt?
CHAYANNE: No, I do a lot of exercise. The tour itself keeps you fit. When I'm touring I watch
what I eat to maintain my body very light. I divide the carbohydrates and proteins to lose a little
weight, and, well, the shirt also helps! This shirt…..

-THE AUDIENCE GOES CRAZY-

CHAYANNE: Do you see how they're looking at me?
ADAL: Well, then, why did wardrobe give me this shirt? This shirt even comes with an attached
stomach!

-ADAL STANDS UP AND PULLS HIS SHIRT OVER A PROTRUDING STOMACH.
CHAYANNE AND THE AUDIENCE LAUGH-

ADAL: No, listen, I'm going to show these videos so everyone at home and here in the studio, may see how
we've changed. But, do you know something, we're like a good wine!
CHAYANNE: Honorable!
ADAL: No, loaded! No, like a good wine! I mean, we gain more body as we age!
CHAYANNE: I don't know about that!
ADAL: I think so! Let's look!

-THEY SHOW IMAGES FROM AN INTERVIEW DONE IN SEPTEMBER 1996. ADAL AND
CHAYANNE OBVIOUSLY LOOK MUCH YOUNGER AND -CHAYANNE VERY HANDSOME-
THE CLIP BEGINS IN THE MIDST OF A CONVERSATION BETWEEN THE TWO-

ADAL: "….what to chase. What to go after."
CHAYANNE: "Exactly, and…. no, no! I always knew what to go after: the career of an artist!

-ANOTHER CLIP, SAME INTERVIEW-

ADAL: "…..since you were eighteen. You now almost have some hair. Almost! Some chest hair. I'm
going to show you what it is like to have hair. Look."

-ADAL OPENS HIS SHIRT SLIGHTLY AND SHOWS A SMOOTH CHEST. HE PRETENDS
TO BE SURPRISED-

ADAL: "Oh, what happened? Special effects people, where's the rug I asked for? No, my partner
herself pulling each hair from my body with her teeth, so that's the reason I'm completely hairless!

-YET ANOTHER CLIP, SAME INTERVIEW-

CHAYANNE: "….it has been growing. I live for the moment…."
ADAL: "That's a very typical Mexican phrase: I live for the moment! The young girl says: "I don't
know…"And one says: "Come on, live for the moment."

-LAUGHS FROM CHAYANNE AND THE AUDIENCE. CHAYANNE CONTINUES-

CHAYANNE: "No, no, but that floats….(MEANING THAT'S PART OF LIFE)-
ADAL: "If you're in the water, of course, it floats."

-CHAYANNE LAUGHS BUT BECOMES EMBARRASSED. HE LOOKS DOWN, AND
COVERS HIS EYES WITH HIS HAND-
………………………………………

-NOW, IMAGES OF ANOTHER INTERVIEW ARE SHOWN. THE DATE IS OCTOBER 2000.
CHAYANNE'S LOOKS -AND BODY- ARE MORE MATURE AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS-

ADAL: "Chayanne, we had our first interview in OTRO ROLLO, approximately three years ago."
CHAYANNE: "I remember."
ADAL: "You didn't realize the clip about the swimming pool was being shown live?"
CHAYANNE: "No, that's why I wanted to see it again, because…..there it is, there it is!"

-A CLIP IS SHOWN WHERE ADAL IS GETTING READY TO DIVE INTO A POOL FROM
AN EXTREMELY HIGH DIVING BOARD. ONCE HE JUMPS, HE HAS TO HIT THE TARGET
AND FALL EXACTLY WITHIN A CIRCLE-SHAPED OBJECT PLACED IN THE POOL. HE
DOES IT PERFECTLY-

CHAYANNE: "That's very impressive! It's an incredibly high jump! I remember when I was twelve
years old, I made a movie called Conexión Caribe (Caribbean Connection)…"
ADAL: "Aha…."
CHAYANNE: "And I had to jump from exactly the same height. It's the professional height used in
the.."
ADAL: "Look, look!"
CHAYANNE: "But…"
ADAL: "Do you know, what worried me exactly was that suddenly the circle would cut off my nose,
because there's a lot to cut off, you see."

-CHAYANNE AND THE AUDIENCE LAUGH-

ADAL: "Besides, there was a chance it could clip off my noble parts."
CHAYANNE: "That, my friend, was exactly my worry then. My friend, that worried me the most."
ADAL: "Well, at that time, my wife was already pregnant, so I said to myself: "If something big is lost,
so be it!"

-AGAIN, CHAYANNE AND THE AUDIENCE LAUGH-

-ANOTHER CLIP, SAME INTERVIEW-

ADAL: "I already learned something from you. How to change diapers."

-NEXT CLIP IS STILL ABOUT THE SAME SUBJECT. ALTHOUGH IT HAS BEEN
SOMEHOW EDITED, CLEARLY, THEY'RE REFERRING TO CHAYANNE HAVING
CHANGED LORENZO'S DIAPERS AT SOME POINT-

ADAL: "And has it happened to you where you've gotten wet? When the little hose gets loose and
it flies everywhere and it wets you…."
CHAYANNE: "Yes, yes, it has but it didn't hit me directly, it hit the diaper. You're always a little
careful and you move it a little to the side…."
ADAL: "You move it to the side…."move over, man, move over."
CHAYANNE: "And one feels pride….because I'm proud of him, you see, I'm extremely proud."
ADAL: "Let's see, son, let's move ALL that to one side."

-ADAL AND THEN CHAYANNE, MAKE A GRAND GESTURE WITH THEIR HANDS, AS
IF MOVING AN EXTREMELY LARGE OBJECT TO THE SIDE. THEY LAUGH AND THEN
HIGH-FIVE EACH OTHER- (MEN!)

-ANOTHER CLIP, SAME INTERVIEW-

CHAYANNE: "…..at the age of fourteen and a half, or the age of fifteen, I got a lot…..I got a lot of…..

-THE AUDIENCE LAUGHS AT THIS COMMENT, AND CHAYANNE LOOKS UP BECAUSE
AT FIRST HE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THAT HIS COMMENT WAS TAKEN IN THE
WRONG CONTEXT BY EVERYONE-

ADAL: "It's true, it's true. For me, it was at the age of fourteen also! And for you, at what age…?."

-CHAYANNE'S REACTION IS A BEAUTIFUL BLEND OF EMBARRASSMENT AND SHYNESS.
HE CLOSES HIS EYES AND LAUGHS NERVOUSLY-

ADAL: "What you were talking about: "I got a lot…." at what age….?"
CHAYANNE: "At what age? At fourteen and a half! But….but… I already wanted to…be in the
group and in the music business, since I was eleven years old!"

-ANOTHER CLIP, SAME INTERVIEW - THIS IS A WONDERFUL AND HILARIOUS SKIT
DONE WITH CHAYANNE, BY ADAL AND TWO MEMBERS OF HIS MALE CREW. CHAYANNE
IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MAESTRO IN A BALLET STUDIO. ADAL AND CHAYANNE
ARE STANDING AGAINST A WALL WITH A FULL LENGTH MIRROR AND A BARRE,
AND ADAL IS WEARING A BLACK TUTU. CHAYANNE IS COMPLETELY TAKEN BY LAUGHTER AND IS TRYING VERY HARD TO FOLLOW THE SCRIPT, BUT ADAL IS TREMENDOUSLY FUNNY AND HE'S MAKING IT VERY HARD FOR CHAYANNE TO
KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE-

ADAL: "Maestro Chayanne, Maestro Chayanne, how nice of you to teach us, Maestro Chayanne."

-ADAL WRAPS HIS HANDS AROUND CHAYANNE'S ARM AND IS TALKING IN WHAT'S
SUPPOSED TO BE A YOUNG GIRL'S VOICE. CHAYANNE CAN'T STOP LAUGHING-

ADAL: "Maestro Chayanne, I brought my two cousins with me."
CHAYANNE: "Oh, really? Let' see, let them in."
ADAL: "Girls!"

-AT THIS POINT, THE TWO MEN RUN INTO THE SCENE, ALSO WEARING BLACK
TUTUS AND TALKING IN YOUNG GIRLS VOICES. THEY RUN EXCITEDLY TOWARDS CHAYANNE
BUT CHAYANNE FENDS THEM OFF LAUGHING. ONE OF THE MEN (HE'S ADAL'S
SIDEKICK IN THE PROGRAM. I THINK HIS NAME IS JORDY) GRABS CHAYANNE'S
HAND AND SHAKES IT. THE SECOND MAN DOES THE SAME THING-
JORDY: "Maestro Chayanne, what a pleasure."
CHAYANNE: "What a beautiful family!"
ADAL: "Maestro, music please!"

-THE THREE MEN DO A COUPLE OF PIROUETTES AND BASIC BALLET POSITIONS-

CHAYANNE: "That's right! Continue! Go down! Go up! Go up! Very good!"
JORDY: "Oh, no! It ripped!" (EITHER HIS TUTU OR A HERNIA)

-ADAL GRABS CHAYANNE'S ARM IN GLEE-

ADAL: "Ayy! Listen, Maestro Chayanne, teach us some of the new steps, because this ballet business
is boring!"
CHAYANNE: "New steps? Let's see!"

-CHAYANNE THEN IS SHOWN TEACHING THEM HOW TO DANCE MERENGUE. THE
FOUR OF THEM ARE IN A LINE. THE MUSIC BEGINS AND CHAYANNE SLOWLY
TO SWAY HIS HIPS-

JORDY: "How does the Merengue go?
ADAL: "Pay attention! Like this! Just look how Maestro Chayanne moves those hips!

-CHAYANNE (WEARING BLACK LEATHER PANTS, AN UNFASTENED BLACKC SHIRT,
AND A SEE-THRU UNDER SHIRT-YUMMY!) CONTINUES WITH HIS RHYTMICAL HIP
MOVEMENTS, WHILE THE THREE MEN TRY TO KEEP UP WITH HIM. NEEDLESS TO
SAY, THE AUDIENCE GOES ABSOLUTELY CRAZY, SEEING CHAYANNE -AND THE
MEN, OF COURSE- SLOWLY, DO A COMPLETE TURN, SHOWING ONCE AGAIN, HIS GREAT DANCING ABILITIES-
………………………………………………………….

-THE VIDEO CLIPS END RIGHT THERE, AND THE CAMERA PANS BACK TO THE
STUDIO,
WHERE ADAL AND CHAYANNE CONTINUE WITH THE INTERVIEW. ONCE THE AUDIENCE
HAS QUIETED DOWN, ADAL IS ABLE TO SPEAK-

ADAL: I don't know how the audience feels, but I think you look even more handsome now, and
so do I.

-CHAYANNE SMILES AND SHAKES ADAL'S HAND-

CHAYANNE: It's good to have friends!
ADAL: If I don't say that about myself…..But anyway, what has changed since the last time?
Seriously, all fun and teasing aside, there have been many changes in your life. Lorenzo, the arrival of Lorenzo is one of them, right?
CHAYANNE: The arrival of Lorenzo, the arrival of Isadora. The arrival of other members in your
family!
ADAL: Yes, the arrival of my daughter Paola.
CHAYANNE: Paola! But, let me tell you, these are beautiful things. Life gets better with time. I've
alwayssaid that life has given me many beautiful things, Adal. I'm extremely grateful to the public, to
my family, with everything they have given me. In general, my career. The way I've been evolving,
the way I've been growing. Look at those beautiful moments we just saw. You feel embarrassed
about some things you've done in the past, but…..
ADAL: What I noticed about myself was my hair. Now, I'm glad I'm wearing a cap. And then,
the way you were wearing your hair, combed all back.
CHAYANNE: Yes, my hair, it's been short, long; and the beard, remember that you told me I
any hair then.
ADAL: And now you have more than enough. What did you use?
CHAYANNE: Nothing!
ADAL: They say goat's manure helps.
CHAYANNE: Really? No, I didn't need to use that.
ADAL: Yes, all you do is rub it a little in your hands to give it a little warmth and then, put on your
face.
CHAYANNE: Careful, there could be someone out there who might really try it!
ADAL: Yes, there may be a dummy who would really do something like that the next day! Listen,
there have been many changes and we have a lot of time to talk about them. Let's just take a short
break and we'll continue.
CHAYANNE: Yes, of course.
ADAL: Chayanne, in OTRO ROLLO!

-BACK FROM THE BREAK-

ADAL: Chayanne, listen, to keep myself in this good physical shape, I do about six hours of exercise.
I liftweights. Yes, I do weight lifting, I do…I do the beds. No, do you work out? Because there are
somepeople, I don't know if that is your case, that never work out and they're in good shape, because
they were born that way. They don't work out at all and they have a good physical structure.
CHAYANNE: That's true in some cases, but in my case, doing the shows helps me to keep in shape. Doing the shows, traveling, keeping the same routine, continuing with the engagements. I'm not going
to tell you that I don't go to the gym, because I do, but I go only once in a while, when I have time….
ADAL: But it's more a case of genetics!
CHAYANNE: It's a little about genetics but there's also a tendency to put on volume, so I have to exercise.
ADAL: But you're very careful about what you eat. You mentioned that you watch what you eat.
CHAYANNE: I'm careful….when I go on tour. When I'm doing the shows, then I watch what I eat.
ADAL: But when the tour is over and you go home, you ask for another hamburger!
CHAYANNE: Yes, and why not, we're recording the album, no one sees me!
ADAL: No one sees you. You're recording with a pizza in front of you!
CHAYANNE: But, I do exercise, I have to continue exercising.
ADAL: You at least go running.
CHAYANNE: Yes, when I have time, I run on the beach, or I go to the gym, or play basketball or
tennis. I'm constantly doing some type of exercise. But when I'm on tour, the show itself keeps me in
shape. I spend two hours doing the show.
ADAL: And the choreography is very rigid.
CHAYANNE: No, but even during the ballads, I'm concentrating and spending energy and each and
every muscle is where it should be.
ADAL: How odd! I wonder what my problem is then! (ADAL GRABS HIS STOMACH.) One day I
went running on the beach, as you mentioned you do. I was barefoot, and running on the beach takes a
tremendous effort because you're sinking as you're running and….
CHAYANNE: And it's double the work…
ADAL: Yes. I took off running and my shoes got full of sand. I came back, took off my shoes and
went back….I burned my feet on the hot sand. I couldn't go on. Well, I ran about ten meters.
CHAYANNE: That's good!
ADAL: Yes, considering I'd never done anything!
CHAYANNE: That's very good!
ADAL: But listen, you're so close to the beach, do you like to go fishing, or what do you do?
CHAYANNE: No, I like to walk or run on the beach when I have the opportunity.
ADAL: But you don't take a little boat and go fishing?
CHAYANNE: No, I don't fish. I'd have to learn. I don’t fish. I do take an occasional ride on a boat
with the family or friends.
ADAL: But never go fishing.
CHAYANNE: But if I have some free time, I stay home. It’s just that I'm never home, so for me being
home is always something new. You know how it is, time is like gold for me!
ADAL: There are some people who love to go out. You're the opposite!
CHAYANNE: No, I get home and all I want to do is stay home and relax. But I do exercise, I eat
well. The training before the tour begins, dancing; it's what's kept me in shape all this time.
ADAL: Yes, because otherwise you wouldn't be able to sing. If you're not in a fit condition….
CHAYANNE: You have to be in good physical condition!
ADAL: You wouldn't be able to sing. Between the dancing and the breathing, it'd be impossible.
CHAYANNE: That's true.
ADAL: But tell me, what do you like to do when you're home? Are you the type who says: "Don't
worry, my love, I'll take the trash out, I'll get it."
CHAYANNE: Yes, I help…once in a while! (HE LAUGHS.)
ADAL: Your face just said: "Every leap year. Every Christmas dinner, I might pick up and take out
the trash."
CHAYANNE: No, I do help around the house, but I'm more the type who, when at home, spends
a lot of time lying around, or sitting down!
ADAL: The classic man! That's what we do, sit down with the remote control in our hand!
CHAYANNE: No, no! It's because everything is already done!
ADAL: Yeah right! What do you mean, everything is already done!
CHAYANNE: Everything is already done! They've done everything! I want to help, but everything's
been done!
ADAL: "My love, I'm here to help you prepare the meals." "Everything's already done!"
CHAYANNE: Everything's already done!
ADAL: "I want to help make the beds." "Everything's already done."
CHAYANNE: Everything's already done!
ADAL: "My love, really, I want to clean the bathroom." "Chayanne, everything's already done."

-CHAYANNE CAN'T STOP LAUGHING. HE PICKS UP A PILLOW AND PRETENDS TO
THROW IT AT ADAL FOR MAKING FUN OF HIM-

ADAL: No, no! But, listen! I imagine that you suddenly wish you could enjoy…..I mean, there are all
the tours, the planes, the bus rides, the road, interviews….
CHAYANNE: You really enjoy being with your family!
ADAL: You say: "I want to be with my family for a little while!"
CHAYANNE: A little while! I take them to karate class…. there are so many activities!
ADAL: Of course, of course! My daughter is barely taking swimming lessons!
CHAYANNE: Swimming lessons, also. I go in the pool with them! It's wonderful!
ADAL: That's what she does, splash in the water. What do your kids do?
CHAYANNE: That's what they do! Swimming, karate, I take them to the park, they play soccer…
they don't stay up at two o'clock in the morning to watch the World Cup, but…..
ADAL: You get up to watch it!
CHAYANNE: I see the reports in the afternoon news!
ADAL: The summary!
CHAYANNE: The summary! But I accompany him everywhere! And my little girl, also. The time
I spend with them is like precious gold. I go to the park with them….I have fun with him, I have a lot
of fun. It takes a lot of your time (THE CAREER) so any free time I have I spend it at home or I
accompany them to the park….
ADAL: That's great!
CHAYANNE: It's wonderful!
ADAL: Tell me something, as a child, did you experience….was your childhood one where your
dad…..your dad….his name starts with the letter "Q" I believe…..
CHAYANNE: Don Quintino! Quintino!
ADAL: Don Quintino!
CHAYANNE: Don Quintino, yes!
ADAL: But you're the third child!
CHAYANNE: Yes. I'm the third of five children.
ADAL: Had you been the first born, can you imagine, we'd be introducing you: "And here he is,
Quintino!"

-AT THIS COMMENT, CHAYANNE GRIMACES, LOOKS THE OTHER WAY, RUBS
HIS HAND OVER HIS FACE, AND SHAKES HIS HEAD-

ADAL: Can you imagine, Chayanne? It's a good thing you were the third child! Picture this:
"QUINTINO." "QUINTINO." "QUINTINO."

-CHAYANNE LOOKS TOWARDS THE CAMERA, ADDRESSING HIS FATHER, AND
POINTS HIS FINGER AT ADAL-

CHAYANNE: Papi! He said it!
ADAL: No! Greetings, sir!
CHAYANNE: Greetings, sir!
ADAL: Did they give that name to any of your brothers?
CHAYANNE: No! Thank God!

-AT THIS, THE AUDIENCE LAUGHS. THIS TIME, ADAL LOOKS TOWARDS THE
CAMERA, ADDRESSING CHAYANNE'S FATHER-

ADAL: This time it was him! This time it was him!
CHAYANNE: No, with all due respect! Thank God! Nooooo, poor thing!
ADAL: Quintino! Did you know that here in México, when they call you "Quintino," it means you
still haven't had your debut?
CHAYANNE: Oh, well! You still haven't……
ADAL: You still haven't…."Hey, Quintino, Quintito. You're part of the Quintito Club."
CHAYANNE: He had five children, Adal! Don't tear my father to shreds on television!
ADAL: Sir, he started it! Now, then, your older brother….what's his name?
CHAYANNE: Kenny!
ADAL: Kenny! Then follows….
CHAYANNE: Clara!
ADAL: Clara, who was also in the church choir!
CHAYANNE: She was also in the choir! The three of us were in the choir, the first three kids.
Then came the two little ones, Elliot and Emmanuel.
ADAL: So there is only one female.
CHAYANNE: Only one female, but….

-CHAYANNE MAKES A GESTURE WITH HIS FIST, EMPHASIZING HIS SISTER'S
STRONG CHARACTER-

ADAL: What a woman!
CHAYANNE: What a woman!
ADAL: And, comparing your experience about the time you spend with your children, to the type
of childhood you had, was it a happy one, where you'd go on outings, to the beach…..
CHAYANNE: Yes! It was very beautiful! I believe that it's because of the type of childhood I had,
that I'm the way I am, and do the things I do. I've said many times that you don't know how much
your parents love you, until you have a child of your own. It is something unconditional, without limits,
it overflows, and you're willing to give your arm, your heart, everything for them!
ADAL: Your life!
CHAYANNE: You give everything that is necessary! And so, once you're at a certain age where
you're able to assimilate all those things, you go and embrace your father, and…and you realize all
the love they have for you. But, we had a beautiful childhood. We'd go and visit the grandparents,
the uncles,
we spend time with the cousins, and also visit the country's…..
ADAL: It was a big family, then!
CHAYANNE: Yes, we have a big family. There are…..we're a big family!
ADAL: You lost track!
CHAYANNE: I have tons of aunts and uncles, cousins!
ADAL: As a matter of fact, your family still lives in the same place where you once lived!
CHAYANNE: Exactly! In San Lorenzo, a small town in Puerto Rico, in the country's mid west.
ADAL: Is that the reason you named your son Lorenzo?
CHAYANNE: I named my son Lorenzo for that reason; because I liked the name, because….
ADAL: Because of your roots.
CHAYANNE: Because the name Lorenzo also prevails on the other half of the family; because we
liked the name very much. We liked the name, and that's why we named him Lorenzo. Lorenzo
Valentino.
ADAL: That name belongs to someone with a strong character.
CHAYANNE: I call him Lorenzito!
ADAL: Can you imagine, if he takes after his parent's good looks! He'll be saying in a strong voice:
"LORENZO VALENTINO."
CHAYANNE: "LORENZO VALENTINO," he'll be saying!
ADAL: And then, there's Isadora!
CHAYANNE: Isadora!
ADAL: How old is she now?
CHAYANNE: She's a year old. She's year and a half.
ADAL: Isadora is four months older than my daughter.
CHAYANNE: Four months.
ADAL: Do you remember that we were keeping track….. and we talked about changing diapers,
then.
CHAYANNE: Yes, they are pure happiness. Your children are what's most beautiful!
ADAL: Do you want to have any more?
CHAYANNE: Eh…I'm fine for now.
ADAL: You have enough with the two little imps running everywhere!
CHAYANNE: Yes, I'm fine. I really like having a family, but I feel comfortable for now. Right now
I'm….
ADAL: Besides, you must find the time to share it with the two you already have!
CHAYANNE: Yes, yes. But I'm fine. There's a lot of communication, a lot of love, understanding.
I talk to them, even since they were inside the tummy. Tell them I must travel. Have communication
and give them that love, one always thinks is never enough, but well…
ADAL: I imagine you went through something similar to this. I used to sing to Paola, when she was
inside Gabby, I used to sing the same song to her, and the funny thing now, is that when she's acting
a little restless, I sing the same song to her, and it soothes her, she calms down! After listening to the
song so much……or maybe she quiets down just thinking: "I wish this idiot would shut up. If only he
sang like Chayanne….shut up already!" Did you sing to your children in the same way?
CHAYANNE: I would talk to them. More than singing, I'd talk to them. I'd talk about everything I
did, about everything I was going to do!
ADAL: "I have to use the bathroom!"
CHAYANNE: Yes. "I'll be back."
ADAL: No! It's great that you have such a family.
CHAYANNE: I do, I have a beautiful family.

-CHAYANNE HAS BEEN HOLDING IN HIS HANDS A MICROPHONE, AND ADAL
AT THIS MOMENT, LETS HIM KNOW THAT THE TECHNICAL STAFF POINTED OUT
THAT HE ACCIDENTLY CONTINUES TO TOUCH THE ANTENNA, THUS INTERRUPTING
THE RECEPTION IN THE STUDIO. CHAYANNE, IN JEST, HOLDS THE MICROPHONE UP
IN THE AIR FOR A FEW SECONDS AND TALKS INTO THE MICROPHONE IN THAT MANNER

ADAL: Go on!
CHAYANNE: No, but I have a very beautiful family! Very beautiful! And besides, my career. And
is going extremely well. The personal side and the professional…..
ADAL: And that's sometimes very difficult to achieve.
CHAYANNE: Yes!
ADAL: Very difficult!
CHAYANNE: Very difficult!
ADAL: A demanding career, a man in love with his family, children who demand to spend time with
their father! If you put all that in a test tube….
CHAYANNE: You don’t know how you do it!
ADAL: It's very difficult to find a balance! But it's clear that you have! And that's beautiful! It's beautiful!
CHAYANNE: One tries!
ADAL: We'll take a break! We'll take a break, and we'll continue with Chayanne!

-AS THEY BREAK FOR A COMMERCIAL, THE ANNOUNCER CAN BE HEARD MAKING
THE FOLLOWING COMMENT: "WE'LL BE BACK IN OTRO ROLLO, WITH THE MAN
WHO ONCE WAS ON THE POINT OF BECOMING QUINTINO, JR. HE'LL CHAT, HE'LL SING. STAY WITH US."

-BACK FROM THE COMMERCIAL BREAK-

ADAL: My dearest Chayanne, what things……what things that you used to do during your childhood
or teenage years, have you stopped doing, that sometimes make you say: "I'd love to be able to do this
again, but at this moment, it would be impossible!" What things did you do before that you wish you
could do now?
CHAYANNE: No, listen, it's just that I've been in the music business since I was little, since I was ten
years old; in fact, I was talking with people here in your program that I worked with many years ago
when we used to work in the Gruta de Cacahuamilpa…..
ADAL: Yes, Rocío mentioned she participated in that musical!
CHAYANNE: In that video, in that musical. I know a lot of people. Camera people from the time I
madenovelas in México and also people who work in make-up, etc. But I've been working since I
young, since I was ten, so I can't specifically say that there are things I miss and I can't do today…..
well,I used to ride bikes, motorcross. I would ride in the mountains and rivers. I'd go to the mountains
in my hometown, San Lorenzo, where there are a lot of mountains, and I would go in the mornings
and…..
ADAL: Did you ever had a serious accident?
CHAYANNE: Yeeees! I had one very serious accident! It's not common knowledge, but I received
atremendous hit!
ADAL: Where in your body, can you tell us?
CHAYANNE: I received a very serious injury between……my legs!
ADAL: You mean, the handle bars were encrusted in that area?
CHAYANNE: No! It was with the gas tank!
ADAL: The gas tank? But the gas tank is a huge monster!
CHAYANNE: Yes, but you go flying! Phew! Because of the impact, you go flying up in the air!
ADAL: You mean you crashed into it and then you flew forward? So it stayed there! It stayed there!
CHAYANNE: Yes, you go up in the air! It's extremely dangerous! No! It didn't stay! It came along
with me, but a little sore! It later fixed itself!

-APPLAUSE AND LAUGHTER FROM THE AUDIENCE AND ADAL. EVEN CHAYANNE IS
ABLE TO LAUGH ABOUT IT NOW-

ADAL: You went flying!
CHAYANNE: But in motorcross, it's normal to have some type of injuries. For example, the mountain
bikes, have a very different type of tires, so if the ground is wet, and if you're not careful, at any turn or
change, you can slip and go flying off. I once fell and I scratched and skinned my knees and everything
else. I don't wish that on anyone! DON'T SKIN YOUR KNEES! It's horrible!
ADAL: There are some women who skin their knees shaving! They don't do it with a motorcycle but
they still do it! Can you imagine! Listen, Chayanne, you skinned your knees, and you came all the way
down, dragging the motorcycle with you?
CHAYANNE: No, no! I came back to the place where I was staying, which was my uncle's house
and he took care of me right away. He poured some alcohol on my wounds, and told me not to worry
that I was going to be better soon!
ADAL: And what did you say: "Uncle, no! Give me that bottle of alcohol!" (ADAL MAKES A
DRINKING MOTION.) "Here, son, bite down on this bullet, bite down on this bullet!"

-CHAYANNE FINDS THIS VERY FUNNY AND CAN'T STOP LAUGHING-

ADAL: But, listen! Do you have any scars? Did you heal?
CHAYANNE: Noooo! If I tell you I have some scars, I can see you now: "Show us! Show us!"
ADAL: Yes, show us! No, no! But, the problem with the gas tank is all healed? Everything has healed?
CHAYANNE: Yes! It never ruptured! It was always…..the tank got bent! It's true!

-CHAYANNE AND ADAL LAUGH AND HIGH-FIVE EACH OTHER. THE AUDIENCE LAUGHS-

CHAYANNE: No, really, that was something that…..
ADAL: It's an extreme sport!
CHAYANNE: It's an extreme sport and you must be very careful because the only protection you
have is your body and….
ADAL: You're the chassis!
CHAYANNE: You're the chassis! But, anyway, that's something I enjoyed, and the rest has been only work.
Work and travel. I was recently in Panamá, in the Canal. The few outings you're able to have when
you visit other countries.
ADAL: And they're probably quick visits.
CHAYANNE: Very quick and only when you have the opportunity. For example, in Perú, I haven't
been able to visit Machupichu, and it's something I'd love to do. I haven't been to Machupichu!
ADAL: Machupichu! Everyone, don't act so surprised, it's not a table dance! No! They are the
ruins of an ancient civilization in Perú!

-CHAYANNE LAUGHS AND TRIES TO COMPOSE HIMSELF TO RESPOND TO ADAL'S NEXT QUESTION-

ADAL: Hum, it's a good name, I think I'll name….No! You were saying…..you haven't been able
to visit Machupichu? You haven't been able to visit Machupichu?
CHAYANNE: No! I haven't been able to…..
ADAL: You should try it once in a while! Seriously! Seriously!

-CHAYANNE STILL CAN'T CONTAIN HIS LAUGHTER-

CHAYANNE: I was referring to the fact that I would like to visit a lot of these places! I visited the
Cataratas de Iguazú. (WATERFALLS LOCATED BETWEEN ARGENTINA AND BRAZIL.)
ADAL: Oh, so you've been to Iguazú!
CHAYANNE: Yes!
ADAL: No! That's something else! So, you were able to go to the Cararatas!
CHAYANNE: I was able to go there! So, I take advantage of any little time I have.
ADAL: What do you know of México? What places have you visited in México?
CHAYANNE: In México I've visited the pyramids, when…..when there was still only the fresh soil,
when you could take a beautiful walk through the area. Now is also beautiful, but there is more
tourism…
ADAL: I'm glad you brought that up, because there are some -Mexican- people who decide to toss
on the floor the wrappings from the camera film and trash and it gets very messy, and we must take
care of these places.
CHAYANNE: Yes, these places are very beautiful. And so, in México, there are a few places I've
been able to visit; there's Guadalajara, Monterrey. I traveled the entire republic when I was doing
promotions with the group, when we did Siempre En Domingo (A POPULAR VARIETY SHOW
THAT SERVED AS A STEPPING STONE FOR A LOT OF NEW PERFORMERS.) When we
did those shows and visited Mazatlán…..
ADAL: And you would have time to escape and get to know women and the beaches…..

-CHAYANNE DOESN'T SKIP A BEAT AND ANSWERS ADAL'S QUESTION WITH A
SMILE-

CHAYANNE: And I would have time to escape and get to know the country a little better!
ADAL: Bikinis and thongs, right?

-CHAYANNE LAUGHS BUT STILL DOES NOT RESPOND DIRECTLY TO ADAL'S
COMMENTS-

ADAL: And you got know a lot of this country, right? The canyons -the Sumidero Canyon- and you
got to know a lot of fiery mountains!

-CHAYANNE ONLY LAUGHS BUT DOES NOT MAKE ANY COMMENTS-

ADAL: But that was something Chayanne could do then, because Chayanne was single! Right?
CHAYANNE: Exactly!
ADAL: And now, well….you stay home, you take the children to karate class!
CHAYANNE: He's speaking…..he's speaking from experience!

-CHAYANNE AND ADAL SHAKE HANDS-

ADAL: We'll go to short break. More music with Chayanne!

-AFTER THE BREAK, ADAL IS STANDING ALONE IN THE SET. CHAYANNE IS

THE CONCERT IN PUERTO RICO

For those of you who taped the concert in Puerto Rico, Leticia has translated the conversations Chayanne had with his gente that night! The concert was recorded on June 28 (Chayanne's birthday) and aired on Sept 21.

AFTER SIMPLEMENTE:

Thank you very, much. Hola! How are you, Puerto Rico?
Thank you for being here. I am extremely happy being here.
Tonight is very special for me because all of you are special to me.
All this (the show) was put together with much enthusiasm, a lot of love and affection, for all of you.
So, tonight, I belong to all of you, so, do with me what you wish!
Welcome, and I hope you enjoy the show. Thank you.

AFTER FIESTA EN AMERICA:

I'm going to continue with a song that was the title to a telenovela I made in Argentina, Provócame, and the song is called Hasta Que El Alma Resista.

AFTER HASTA QUE EL ALMA RESISTA:

We go on. I'm sorry I took so long in changing clothes. Is that I'm all alone back there, with no one to help me. If only I'd had a little help, it'd have gone a little faster!

I'm very, very happy. I honestly don't know what to say. A lot of times one wishes we could say many things, but words fail me. But if right now, a reporter were to ask me what would I consider to be a moment of happiness for me. I'd tell him, THIS IS THE MOMENT of happiness in my life!

Thank you, Puerto Rico, for make me feel all these beautiful things. If only you could see yourselves from here! You'd see how beautiful you look. You all look so beautiful! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can't tell you how it feels to receive all this love from my island! This island I'm so proud of. I'm a borícua with the stains of banana on me, and happy and proud of it! I'm very happy with all of you, my fellow countrymen, and very proud, also! Arriba, Puerto Rico! And I'm not just saying that, I feel it!

I'm thrilled to be on this stage. There are so many emotions when one is in the hotel, or the trailer, or on our way over here. When we are backstage, waiting. It's a feeling that can't be explained. It's nerves of love, because I want to do a great show for all of you. So, I hope you are enjoying it!

Thank you. I'm going to sing my next song. It's a song that all of you made #1. TAL VEZ ES AMOR.

AFTER TAL VEZ ES AMOR:

This song that I'm going to sing, is from my Simplemente album. And
everytime I sing it when I'm doing a show, being in Chile, México or any other country, I think always, of Puerto Rico. The song is called, CANDELA.

AFTER CANDELA:

There are many songs that we are not singing tonight because the people that accompany me say that they are old songs, for me not to sing old songs, that's been too long, that I should only sing more recent songs. Songs like PELIGRO DE AMOR, I can't sing! Songs like, I don't know, COMPLETAMENTE ENAMORADOS, I can't sing! Do you remember, Y QUE CULPA TENGO YO? VUELVE? TIEMPO DE VALS? None of them, I can sing. None of them. They won't let me! Unless you want me to do something about it! I'll go around them! The first song I sang solo was, I don't know if you remember, Y QUE CULPA TENGO YO. Do you remember that one? That one for example, or, a little bit of
VUELVE. The beginning goes like this.... Thank you very much. Do you
remember, COMPLETAMENTE ENAMORADOS? Well, they won't let me sing it. But, I'm going to sing it!

Do you remember, do you remember... Do we go on, or do we go back to the show? We go on? (yes!) We go back to the show? (No!) TIEMPO DE VALS!

AFTER TIEMPO DE VALS:

That is the past, the present and it will be the future. And this next song I'm going to sing is part of my present from my new album. Y TU TE VAS.

AFTER SALOME:

Thank you very much! Good night! Until next time! I love you!

AFTER YO TE AMO:

Thank you, Puerto Rico! Until next time!

AT THE END, AFTER BOOM BOOM:

Thank you, Puerto Rico! I love you! I carry you in my heart! You are
special!

Puerto Rico, until next time. Thank you for all that love! I love you!

Ciao, Ciao, Ciao!

THE DE PE A PA SHOW : In addition to the translation, we have a lot of dynamite pictures from this television interview.

PRIMER IMPACTO INTERVIEW – LATE 2002
Hello, Everyone!

This brief interview was conducted sometime in 2002. TONY DANDRADES from PRIMER IMPACTO interviews CHAYANNE at a bookstore in Miami where he’s filming a commercial for a Venezuelan television station. There are cameras, technicians, and extras everywhere in the bookstore. CHAYANNE and TONY seem to have a lot of fun throughout the interview. I hope you, and all our friends who visit us here at LA ISLA, enjoy this brief but fun interview. Hasta luego, Leticia.

-THE TAPE BEGINS WITH TONY DANDRADES IN THE STUDIOS OF PRIMER IMPACTO-

TONY: “CHAYANNE is one of the artists most accessible to the media. He was recently in Miami and fortunately he didn’t seem to mind our cameras; of course not, he’s my pal. Let’s watch this.”

-IMAGES ARE SHOWN OF CHAYANNE BROWSING THROUGH A BOOK, AND ACROSS FROM HIM, A COUPLE ARRIVES AND GREETS HIM. HE SMILES BACK-

TONY: “CHAYANNE is always news. As soon as we found out he was in Miami filming a commercial for a Venezuelan television station, we transported ourselves to the scene, and this is how he greeted us.”

-CHAYANNE IS STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM, SURROUNDED BY TECHNICIANS. A YOUNG WOMAN, WHO’S STANDING WITH HER BACK TO THE CAMERA, IS APPLYING MAKE-UP ON CHAYANNE. TONY APPROACHES WITH A MICROPHONE AND GREETS CHAYANNE-

CHAYANNE: “Don’t tell me you’re going to record me being made-up!”

-TONY AND CHAYANNE SHAKE HANDS AND EMBRACE. TONY IMMEDIATELY NOTICES SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR ABOUT THE YOUNG WOMAN AND QUESTIONS CHAYANNE-

TONY: “Wait! Wait, CHAYANNE! I just noticed something about the make-up artist.”
CHAYANNE: “No! That is all hers! That’s hers!

-THE CAMERA SHOWS THE YOUNG WOMAN TO BE IN A VERY ADVANCED STATE OF PREGNANCY-

TONY: “Explain to me….”
CHAYANNE: “That’s hers!
TONY: “This is not yours?”
CHAYANNE: “That’s hers! No! Not that!

-TONY ADDRESSES THE YOUNG WOMAN-

TONY: “May I see your stomach, please? How many months?
YOUNG WOMAN: “Eight months.”
CHAYANNE: “Eight months. She’s my make-up artist of always. But I want you to look at her this way…..excuse me, Marilyn…..she’s turning red……”

-CHAYANNE TENDERLY TURNS THE YOUNG WOMAN TO SHOW HER BACK TO THE CAMERA-

CHAYANNE: “And now, sideways!”

-THE YOUNG WOMAN IS ALL SMILES AND OBLIGES CHAYANNE. SHE TURNS SIDEWAYS SO THE CAMERA CAN SHOW HER PROTRUDING STOMACH-

CHAYANNE: “Look at this marvel.”

-WHILE TONY CONTINUES WITH HIS NARRATION OF THE CLIP, SEVERAL IMAGES ARE SHOWN AGAIN OF CHAYANNE RECORDING PARTS OF THE COMMERCIAL. TONY’S COMMENTARY:

TONY: “In this commercial, where CHAYANNE is the star, also participates the former Miss Venezuela CYNTHIA LANDER, who traveled from her country to record this commercial.”

-TONY INTERVIEWS CYNTHIA LANDER. CHAYANNE IS STANDING A FEW FEET AWAY-

TONY: “How does it feel to be in a television commercial with CHAYANNE?”
CYNTHIA: “Wonderful! Very wonderful!
TONY: “Really?”
CYNTHIA: “Yes, to be able to meet someone like him, please.”
TONY: “CHAYANNE…..CHAYANNE…..please!”

-CHAYANNE APPROACHES-

CHAYANNE: “Yes?”
TONY: “I was just asking this young lady how it feels to work with you and she said no, that she would have liked to do the commercial with me instead….”

-CHAYANNE PRETENDS TO BE HURT AND LOOKS AT CYNTHIA-

CHAYANNE: “She said that?”

-CYNTHIA IS MORTIFIED-

CYNTHIA: “I didn’t say that!”

-CHAYANNE LOOKS AT THE DIRECTOR AND SAYS:

CHAYANNE: “Substitution!”
CYNTHIA: “No!”

-TONY CONTINUES WITH HIS COMMENTARY. IN THE MEANTIME, IMAGES CONTINUE TO APPEAR SHOWING CHAYANNE AND TONY CLOWNING AROUND. IN ONE CLIP, TONY IS SHOWING A CLOSE-UP OF A DECORATING MAGAZINE-

TONY: “And amid so many books, CHAYANNE took the opportunity to browse through a few decorating magazines because he’s about to move into his new house in Miami Beach.”

-CHAYANNE TAKES THE MAGAZINE FROM TONY’S HANDS AND RETURNS IT TO THE STAND. HE THEN PULLS TONY TOWARDS HIM TO SHOW HIM A FEW DANCE STEPS. TONY DOES NOT FOLLOW CHAYANNE’S DIRECTIONS VERY WELL-

-TONY, INTERVIEWING CHAYANNE ONCE AGAIN-

TONY: “When will the house be ready? When do I get to eat mofongo borícua in the new house? (Mofongo is a dish prepared with plantains.)
CHAYANNE: “We can do it whenever you want; we can do it now if you’d like, but there will be a lot of dust! No, the house still needs a lot of work.”

-TONY’S COMMENTARY:

TONY: “Another recent investment for CHAYANNE was the house in Puerto Rico that belonged to the former group, MENUDO, where RICKY MARTIN and ROBI ROSA lived. It’s a mansion that is full of memories and stories.”

-TONY ASKS CHAYANNE-

TONY: “How does it feel being in that house?”
CHAYANNE: “It has a history. It’s a beautiful house with a history. It has a beautiful view and it’s in the country.”

-TONY ASKS A QUESTION WITH A DOUBLE MEANING. CHAYANNE SMILES-

TONY: “Are you able to hear any screams at night or see ghosts?
CHAYANNE: “No, nothing of that sort, man! EDNITA NAZARIO got married in that house. MENUDO’s trajectory is there. There have been many artists passing through. It’s a house that holds something of the entertainment world.”
TONY: “You were part of LOS CHICOS. Did you ever dream of becoming part of MENUDO.”
CHAYANNE: “They approached me on two occasions.”
TONY: “That means that you could have lived in that house also!”
CHAYANNE: “No!”
TONY: “Why not?”
CHAYANNE: “Because I would have lived with my dad! I could have rehearsed in that house!”

-CHAYANNE AND TONY EXCHANGE A MEANINGFUL LOOK AND LAUGH. TONY ADDRESSES THE CAMERA-

TONY: “It’s a local joke.”
CHAYANNE: “Local!”
TONY: “Very local.”

-THEY BOTH LAUGH AGAIN. CHAYANNE LAUGHS SO HARD, HE’S ALMOST READY TO GO OFF CAMERA. TONY IS ALSO ABOUT TO LOSE HIS COMPOSURE BUT HE’S ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. TONY ADDRESSES THE CAMERA AGAIN-

TONY: “This is something only he and I know!”

-THIS TIME, CHAYANNE IS THE ONE TALKING TO THE CAMERA-

CHAYANNE: “It’s him! The wickedness is coming from him!”
TONY: “I haven’t said anything! I haven’t said anything!”

-TONY CONTINUES WITH HIS COMMENTARY, WHILE MORE IMAGES ARE SHOWN OF CHAYANNE TRYING TO TEACH TONY HOW TO DANCE-

TONY: “And all joking aside, after finishing this commercial, CHAYANNE will travel to México, where he will be fulfilling several engagements. Very well.”

-BACK TO THE STUDIOS OF PRIMER IMPACTO-

TONY: “For CHAYANNE’s fans, here are some interesting facts. This borícua continues taking lessons to fly helicopters. He currently travels in a private plane; he didn’t buy it, but he leases it whenever he needs it. And for those of you who want to see his house; CHAYANNE, my pal, my friend….eh….what else can I say….what other adjectives can I use…..he promised me an exclusive in his house here in Miami Beach and, CHAYANNE, I know you’re watching this program, I hope you keep your promise, please.”
MYRKA DE LLANOS: “TONY!
TONY: “CHAYANNE!”
MYRKA DE LLANOS: “You’re behaving extremely well only because you want him to make you some mofongo!”
TONY: “A Dominican mangú….” (Another dish prepared with plantains.)
MYRKA DE LLANOS: “It’ll be better if he makes it for me and I go to his house….”
TONY: “The interview has just been stolen from me! This always happens to me!
MYRKA DE LLANOS: “All right….”
TONY: “No, he’s very nice. He’s a good friend and he’s very successful in his concerts.”
MYRKA DE LLANOS: “And I love the way he dances! Next time I’ll ask for a small dance lesson….”
TONY: “Do you want a dance lesson?”

-TONY STANDS UP AND BEGINS TO DANCE-

MYRKA DE LLANOS: “From him! From him! From CHAYANNE!”
BARBARA: “We send you a kiss, CHAYANNE! We love you, here in PRIMER IMPACTO.”
