This song iis one of those popular/regional ballads that
are accepted by the public and become almost a trademark for the artist.
This song was released in the 70's by José Luis Rodríguez, a
very well
liked and famous singer/actor from Venezuela. He is known, among the Spanish
speaking public, almost as well, if not more, by his nickname, El Puma
(Mountain Lion.) This nickname stuck on him after his appearance early in
his career, in a telenovela where he played the part of a wild and magical
mountain doctor,
known as El Puma. From then on, he became El Puma. His popularity was huge.
His music
was full of romanticism and sensuality, and his concerts attracted thousands
of
screaming fans. Sound familiar? He has recorded albums in several
languages. He's still very active in the entertainment industry. He recently
gave a concert in Miami, to promote his latest album, "Champagne"
in which he
celebrates love in the romantic style of the 60's and 70's.
I have to tell you though, this song has nothing to do with peacocks! This
is a silly song, really.
And it doesn't make sense in some parts, but I guess is a unity hymn. The
word "chévere" is
used in the Caribbean and countries of Central and South América to
mean
"great" or "cool" as they say nowadays! I used the word
wonderful.
