-THE INTERVIEW- THALIA FACE TO FACE -THALIA BEGINS .. Although the day seemed endless, there was a feeling of excitement while we worked. My reward? Chayanne!!!! Weve known each other for years! Weve worked since we were children! He with Los Chicos and I with Timbiriche. We then ventured into our careers as soloists to conquer more and more markets worldwide. If we didnt run into each other in New York, it happened in Spain, Argentina or any other part of the planet and we would always hug with so much love, with so much nostalgia. I dont know .perhaps we recognized in each other that young child who wanted to play at being an artist, recognized in one another all that effort, and we accomplished it! Hello, my Thaly! But, how beautiful you are, he tells me with that big smile that accompanies him wherever he goes. And you .youre so handsome; youre to die for! I respond and he blushes, since my Tommy is with me, and he (Tommy) smiles at him: Whats up, buddy! Tommy, how are you, man? What a surprise! You see, with me, there are always surprises, I say to him and while we comfortably seat in the small room of the location. And thus began out chat . THE PRESS HAS CALLED YOU A NICE GUY; WHAT DO YOU THINK? In the first place, Im grateful for the affection they give me. Its not that Im a good or a bad guy. Im a human being with virtues and faults like any other. I believe life has been very generous with me. It gave me a wonderful family: parents who taught me to be humble and grateful for everything that life gives us; respect towards others; work, dedication, perseverance, responsibility, and siblings whom I adore and who are my accomplices; a wife and children who are my home and my reason for living. One way or the other I believe all that family structure that God gave me, touches the heart of the people, because I am the reflection of what my family gives me. HOW HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO STAY AWAY FROM THE LIFE OF A CELEBRITY; THAT IS, AWAY FROM PARTIES, DISCOTHEQUES, DRINKING, WOMEN ? Celebrity? I dont consider myself to be one. I believe the stars are in the sky and that Im just a human being whos been fortunate to work in an area where he has the opportunity to reach a lot of people and to make a small contribution. Regarding the discotheques, drinking and women, I can say Im not one to be going to discotheques. I had my turn and I enjoyed it greatly. Now, Im more for staying home with my children watching a movie or cartoons in the mornings. I really dont need anything else. When you see yourself on the magazine covers it gives the impression that everyone knows you. IF YOU WERE TO REMOVE ALL THIS, WHO ARE YOU REALLY? If I removed all this, you would still see the same human being because Im not a mirage. I am the same on and off the stage because Ive never lost sight of the horizon. I have it very clear that this is job like any other. Im a son, father, brother, neighbor, who suffers, who cries, who laughs, etc. With the difference that Im out there for the world to see. WHAT CHANGED WHEN YOU STARTED IN THIS CAREER? I feel I havent changed in any way. I continue being the same I was since the beginning of my career. Ive just worked like a little ant, little by little, but with a firm step, always leaving a print and, with time, that result of that work has been evident. HOW HAS BEING A FATHER CHANGED YOU? With children, your life changes again; you begin to love a human being who carries your own blood, who is your extension and who depends entirely on you. Then, what matters the least is how you feel, if youre fine or not, and you place above all that, your familys well being. Its wonderful! HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN THE EQUILIBRIUM? I live intensely the time I spend with my family. With them, I maintain a balance between this carrousel of emotions that we, the artists live and the reality of every human being. They are the essence of my life. I live and work, I dont work and live. AND FOR YOURSELF? I read a lot of books on self-help, I meditate and do yoga bring my spirit into equilibrium. WHAT DO YOU DO AND WHEN DO YOU DO IT? My equilibrium is really my home; to be with my loved ones in Puerto Rico during the Christmas holidays and to arrive home after each work day or a tour. To relax, I love to watch a good movie or simply play with my friends a round of golf. YOUVE SAID, CHANGE IS A NECESSARY RISK. HOW DOES THAT APPLY TO YOUR LIFE? WHAT OTHER RISKS ARE YOU WILLING TO TRY? "Change is necessary because it helps us grow. Artists, by nature, are creative. We feel the need to evolve experimenting with new sounds, melodies, musical arrangements, etc. Ive never liked being someone static, because Im moved by a feeling that motivates me to create and that it makes me subject to a constant renewal. WHAT DECISION DO YOU CONSIDER HAS BEEN THE GREATEST RISK OF YOUR LIFE? Ive always made my decisions relying on common sense and on recommendations I receive. I understand that every step that is worthwhile, always carries a risk of failure, but if I thought about that, I would never make decisions. WHAT EXPERIENCE HAS MARKED YOUR LIFE? On one occasion when I visited a childrens hospital, I experience first hand the desperation of one mother to save the life of her daughter. In that moment, I thought about how fragile life really is and how destiny can suddenly hit you. Many times we dont think about how short life is and we occupy our minds on things that perhaps are not that important and we forget to live. Since that day, I understood that we must live intensely each day, each minute, each second, with the people we love. DO YOU FEEL AN OBLIGATION TOWARDS YOUR PUBLIC? Always! To them, I owe that today I am able to stand on a platform doing what I like best. Thanks to the love I feel for my career and to the affection that the public gives me, I feel it is my duty to give my best. If I didnt feel a compromise and great respect towards them, I wouldnt be here answering these questions. OF ALL THE PLACES YOU HAVE VISITED, WHICH IS THE ONE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THE BEST? Ive enjoyed a lot of places Ive had the opportunity to visit throughout my career but undoubtedly and without meaning to underrate the charm and beauty of other countries, I definitively must say that its my island that Ive enjoyed the most. Being in Puerto Rico gives me a lot of peace, because its there where I have my childhood memories, my parents, my siblings, in short, my reality is there. DO YOU BELIEVE YOUVE ACHIEVED EVERYTHING? WHAT DO YOU NEED TO ACCOMPLISH? I havent achieved everything. It hasnt been easy but, but I can say that Ive had the luck of being successful and Ive managed to have a life at the same time, which is very important to me. There will always be challenges to be conquered and projects to be realized. WHAT IS THE PRICE OF FAME? The price of fame is the sacrifice of not being able to be present during those special moments that we all have with our families and that we can never bring back. IF YOUR LIFE WERE A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED? Sincere, because everything, being in my personal or professional life, I have done consistent with my most sincere beliefs, convictions and intentions; truly from the heart. ARE THERE ANY CHAPTERS OF YOU LIFE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ERASE? Honestly, I wouldnt change anything. I think everything that takes place, good or bad, has a purpose in ones life. ARE YOU HAPPY? Of course! I feel Im the luckiest man in the world for all the reasons I always mention: my family, my career, my friends. My happiness is the sum of all that. WHAT SCARES YOU? Professionally, my greatest fear I would say is ridicule; on
a personal level, not being near my loved ones when they needed me. |
