The sun, the sea and the luxuriant vegetation were the ideal background for some well deserved days of rest. After an entire year full of responsibilities from work, Chayanne arrived to the Isle of CARAS, in Angra Dos Reis, a truly Brazilian paradise, with the sole purpose of regaining his energy to be where he likes to be: on stage, body and soul.
The new deck, built over the white sand of the beach, and sunk in a hammock made of bamboo brought specially from India, the latin singer relaxed and confessed he's extremely shy. "I wear these suits because it's expected of me, but I'm tremendously bashful," he added, with his charismatic smile that drives women crazy. Just like a gentleman, he returns the compliments to the beautiful women spread out on the lounge chairs that are part of the scarce decoration. "The women in Brazil are very similar to the women in Puerto Rico. They're very talkative and cheerful, besides having that provocative ardor. I'm feeling very much at home."

A natural seducer, his body very muscular, obtained from disciplined physical activity, awakens sighs at every step he takes. Owner of a pair of very black eyes and with an intense gaze, Chayanne acknowledges that part of his success is due to the millions of loyal fans. "Some girls go too far and attempt to touch me," -he said amid laughter- "but I know it's just a sign of affection, so I really don't mind."

In spite of his air of seducer, he constantly talks about his family. Married to Marilisa Maronese, he loves with devotion his two children, Lorenzo (5) and Isadora (2). "My children are the joy of my life. I miss them very much when I travel, but, for their own protection, I prefer they stay home, at their mother's side," he said with a touch of nostalgia.

During his stay in the island, he took advantage of some relaxing sessions of shiatsu and took rose baths. In the afternoon, he read on one of the two chairs in the living area, enjoying the tropical air. With a refreshing glass of juice in his hand, the singer admited that, as much as he loves his family, music and work have always been first.
Residing for the last 17 years in Miami, the third of five children, his family still lives in Puerto Rico. "I miss them very much, but we spend every Christmas together." He compared the Caribbean country with Rio de Janeiro, the city of the samba and the most prestigious carnival in the world. "Both places have a similar climate. In Puerto Rico, people are as joyfyul as the Cariocas (native of Rio de Janeiro). I believe I add that latin air to my music."

His other passion is acting. He co-starred with Vanessa Williams in Dance With Me. "That movie served as a stepping stone for me. I always dreamed of being an actor. I feel every singer needs to express himself as actors do." He also worked with Araceli González in the novela Provócame. "I resided in Argentina for six months and I loved the experience." But when asked about his alleged romance with Araceli, the singer very clearly and firmly stated: "She's a beautiful woman and she works very well. She's very professional. But at that time, she was married, and so was I."

The singer doesn't dismiss the possibility of working again in films or in another novela. "Who knows, perhaps one day I'll be invited to make a novela in Brazil," he adds with his sweeping smile.

Referring to the rivalry some want to create between him and Ricky Martin, Chayanne is adamant: "Ricky is a great professional and he has a renowned and great career. I'm very happy that a fellow countryman is successful throughout the world."
