The charming Chayanne from Puerto Rico has gatheerd around 50 gold and platinum
records since his debut in 1986 but he says himself that money is not lasting
- "The only thing that lasts, when all is said and done, is love. The
record company takes almost all the money anyway;" he laughs.
Already when he was 10 years old Chayanne made his debut in the buisness.
He left his hometown San Lorenzo in Puerto Rico and put together the teenage
group Los Chicos. It became a success and the group conquered Latin America.
When Chayanne was 17 years old, his solo career began. He became extremely
popular in his home country and also started an acting career. There is a
resemblance with Ricky Martin. How Chayanne can combine his two careers and
both be a good husband and father to a five year old boy is a mystery.
- "I don´t have enough time for my son, he says. When we meet I
want to do everything! Tennis is popular right now."
Chayanne, who was appointed one of the 50 most good looking guys in the world
by People Magazine in 1993, tell us how little money means to him.
-" I gave my son love as a birthday present. That is the only thing that
lasts. I don´t waste money, what I have, I invest."
Chayanne has also been in the movie business and TV with `Ally McBeal´
- "When you act, you leave yourself to be a whole different person, and
that is so fascinating."
The charming Puertorican is also very interested in sports. Besides tennis
he has baseball and basketball as favorites. He likes working with his (?jouse?)
or just relaxing. Of course it´s mostly salsa music this latino guy
likes, but also classical music.
- "In my record collection you can find everything from Rick Astley to
Phil Collins and Abba", he says with a smile
We ask; Would you like to say anything to your swedish fans?
-"I don´t know if I have any," he declares with anxiety. "In
fact I´m a little scared. I don´t know what the response will
be for me here in Sweden."

Chayanne is the male opposite to Shakira. Extremely
good looking, big as a God in South America, and is on his way conquering
the world, but it happens that his pants crack on stage...
What is the most embarassing situation that has happened to you?
- About three days ago I was with a girl and...No, to be serious;
I was performing on stage and my pants cracked. I stopped dancing and the
so called "small kids" in front started to laugh.
Did you wear underpants?
- (laugh) Yes, luckily I had boxershorts on, but sometimes I .. no, that part
we can talk about when you turn that off (he points at the tape recorder)
You are both an actor and singer. Which
do you like the best?
- both actually. I really love to act, but that comes second in my
life right now. I put a lot of time in my music right now. A couple of years
ago I made my last soap opera. The hard part, being in one, is that you don't
have the time to do anything else. It takes all of your time. It's the same
thing if you are doing a movie. That is why I don't do that anymore.
Have you ever felt sexually attracted to
a guy?
- No, never!
What is the most strange thing a fan has
done to you?
- When I got back to my hotel room after a show in Costa Rica, I began to
take my clothes off and discovered that there were two girls under the bed
and one in the wardrobe. They wanted an autograph, and that wasn't any problem,
but they actually scared me a little. They waited to show themselves until
I'd taken my shirt off. (laugh)
Do you think that you are good looking?
-No, what do you think?
I think that you are very, very good looking.
-Thank you very much. I don't think that I'm good looking. Dark hair, dark
eyes. But I'm not complaining.
What do you think about "one-night
stands"?
-It depends on what relationship you have to one another and how both react.
But I really don't think that it's a good idea to have sex with someone that
you just know for the evening.
If you could be a woman for one day, what
would you do?
-Hug the mirror all day (laugh)
Then I would do things that I'm not telling you about...
How do you react if magazines write things
about you that aren't true?
-It feels, it really does. You do as good as you can, and then without any
reason at all, they write things that are not true. I don't care if they write
about me, if it's true, but if it isn't true, of course, it makes me sad.
I'm only human.
Who do you think is the sexiest woman in
the world?
-(Chayanne picks up one of our magazines with J.Lo on the cover) Jennifer
Lopez is very sexy. There are so tremendously many beautiful women in this
world, and she is one of them. All people have something that is beautiful.
Are there a lot of women who try to "pick
you up"?
-I don't have time to go out. I work too much. But when I do, people recognize
me and come up to me talking and flirting.
Have you ever had sex with a fan?
-No, I haven't.
What do you think about Swedish girls?
-Beautiful and nice, but I haven't seen so many yet. I have only been here
for a couple of hours.
Do you cry watching movies?
-Yes, a lot. Let me open my heart for you. The latest movie I saw was "John
Q" (has not come to Sweden yet) with Denzel Washington. He has a child
who has heart failure. I get so moved watching those kind of movies, so, yes,
then I cry a lot.
Which part of your body are you most proud
of?
-The stomach (laugh)
Are you a good kisser?
-I don't know. No one has ever said anything. I think I am. If I'm going to
kiss anyone that I really like, I do it with passion and put a lot of love
in it.
